against H. Clay Pierce comes from
Travis county, Texas. The offense of

a term of from two to five years in
the penitentiary. Judge Shepard Bar

KANSAS CITY, Oct. 16—A. S.
Smith, of Nevado, Mo., was killed and
fifteen passengers were hurt today
when three trolley cars on the Troost
avenua line collided at Thirteenth
street and Troost avenue.
The alVbrnke failed on on*, of the
cars at Tenth and Troost and the car
rushed down a sleep hl'l. Two other
cars coming up the hill were crowded
with passengers bound down town. The
car* for three blocks before the cars
finally collided ran back In an attempt
to avoid a collision. Men and women
Jumped to the street and many wore
hurt.
A wrecking car collided with the
runaway trolley car after the latter
had Come to a standstill and the crew
were forced to Jump to save their
lives, the foreman being badly hurt.

Nei Knight, died yesterday afternoon at
the Macon City Hospital, as the result
of Injuries received by being run over
by a home and wagon,^driven 'supposed
ly by a white man, the accident occur

to tli# Spring street bridge, on Satur
day night.
Very little la known as to how the ac-
cldsnt occurred. A lady In Bant Macon
stated that at about S o'clock Saturday
night, a person come to her door and
requested her to phone the hospital as
h« bud juat run over an old man, and
thought probably h* had killed him.
After sour* delay the old negro was
taken to the hospital, where every tiling
possible was done for his comfort, bui
to no avail aa his constitution was too
weak to respond to the physician’s
treatment, and he died late yesterday

but hurried off os soon as be had re
ported the accident and requested that
the hospital authorities be notified.
An inqifest will be held this morning
by Coroner Young.
