W. A. Harris nominated Mark A. Ilardin
and H- II. Cabanias for permanent secreta
ries. They were unanimously elected.
W. A. Barris offered a resolution return
ing the thanks of the people of Georgia to
Hon. Henry D. McDaniel for the “ability,
ztal and fidelity with which he haa dis
charged tbe duties of Governor.” Adopted.
Mr. It. L. McWhorter, of Green, offered
a resolution providing that immediately af
ter the nomination of Governor the conven
tion shall seleol State house officers in the
following order: Secretary of Stale, Treas
urer, Comptroller and Attorney-General.

Mr. McWhorter, of Greene, then moved
that the convention proceed to nominate a
Governor; but on a point being raised that
Bartow conld not vote until the contest for
seats should be settled, the resolution was
withdrawn.
On motion of Mr. Lovett, of Clinch, a re
cess of twenty minutes was taken, to allow
tbe representatives of the Congressional
districts to seleot their nominees for tho
State executive committee.
At 4:15 the convention was called to or-
tier.
TUB BABT0W CONTEST.
Mr. Patrick Walsh arose and said the
committee on credential, by a vote of 14
to 5, reported in favor of seating the dele
gation headed by It. H. James, for
Gordon. “I am instructed

Mr. B. D. Smith moved tho adoption of
tbe minority report, and called the previotu
question, which prevailed.
The vote on adopting the minority report
was—ayes 100], nays 224]. The votes by
counties in favor of seating the Bacon
delegates is as follows:

Burke (21. Carroll (2), Chatham (0) Chattahoochee,
Chattooga, Clarke, Clinch, Columbia Coweta (21,

111, Jaaper, Jeff raon, Jonea (IS), Laurena, Liberty,

The question recurring on the majority
report, it was adopted by a viva voce vote.
Air. Mcyerhardt, of Floyd, offered a
resolution, which was adopted, declaring in
favor of the majority rule in the nomina
tions by the convention.
It was then a quarter to 6 o'clock, at
which time, on motion of W. A. Harris, of

Bacon. He said hia publio services to tbe
party and State made it unncccssaiy in this
convention to say more than put his name
in nomination.
The nomination was seconded in a short
but eloquent speech by B. L. Pierce, of
Kichmond, who said that the frieutla of
Major Bacon had fought an earnest cam
paign for him and the principles represented
in his candidacy, and, although in defeat,
came to the convention ready and willing to
