THE FEVER AT TAMPA.
The Palatka Case That of a Refuse From
Tampa—Dr. Porter's Report.
Jacksonville, October 14.—Doctor Jo
seph V. Porter, of Key West, arrived in
Tampa to-day, and to-night sent the fol
lowing dkpitoh to the Ttmes-Union:
"The fever here ia undoubtedly yellow
fever. There le not lacking a single symp
tom in marked eases to admit of doubt.

tors Wei), Jackson and Weedon are in
unison on the subject. The authorities gen
erally realize the faot and will organize and

the actual number of cases. Dr. Weedon
tells me that there are in the neighborhood
of 100 and Dr. Wall says fifty oases. There

past twenty fonr hours Mrs. Warner is in
a djing oondition and Charles Wilson lies
in an extremely oritioal state, as is else
Mrs. Copeland.”

refugee from Tamps. The house where he
died was properly quarantined and the bed-

day morning after tbe robbers who mur
dered Mr. Ryan, nctr Walton, Ranoeverte
county, last Thnraday night After the
house was robbed and the old man was
shot the robbers, thirteen in number, com'
pelted the family to send him np stairs and
to get thotr breakfast for them. The offi
cers and citizens ran into the rubbers last
night at Georgo Dnfl'* residence, eight
miles from Hiaaonville, this county,
and were warned to keep iff by tho robbers,
who had taken ref ago in tbe bouse fitted
with port-hole*, and made other arrange-
meats tor protection. The murderers were
fired on and Georgs Duff, Jr , was killed.
Jake Coon was captured and lynched, and
five officers and eiliz na were wounded.
There are about tw nly robbers In the
gang who have been carrying on at a high
rate. R M. Daffy, George Drake and
Frank Sbsmblitgate prisoner* and await
disposal by tho vigilanoe committw*. Coon
i* the man who killed Itev. Thoa. P. Hyse

ident'a special train, preceded by a pilot
ttaio, passed Springfield, Mo., at 5:10 this
morning. The passengers were all asleep.
A crowd of 300 persons was at the station
to see the trtin, which passed without stop
ping. The train men report that people
were np and waiting for the train at all the
way stations dnrieg the night.

have been gatherings of from one to three
