year and we hope the Seaboard will
cut them out altogether until the peo
ple along the line can learn to behave
themselves.
Col. Morgan, of Stillmore, has mov
ed to Lyons and he has offices in the

attorney and we bid him welcome to
our little city.

T. O’Berry went up in South Caro

too late for the funeral. We sympa

The Union Supply Company is call
ing attention to cooking stoves and

the people generally to call and 6ee

Over a hundred bales of cotton were

cotton and the market is holding up
fairly well.

People in Toombs county are not
seemingly worrying one particle over
the race for Governor yet. They are
waiting it seems for something to hap
pen and it would not surprise us one
bit to see another candidate enter tne
field and clean up the race. '
Col. Pratt Williams, a son of Judge
P. W. Williams and a prominent attor
ney from Pembroke, has moved to
Vidalia and has joined in with Col.
C. C. Curry. This will be quite a strong
law firm for Vidalia and the Progress
wishes them all kinds'of good success.
There is more water in the creeks
and branches of the county now than
we have seen in five years. To ford a
a btanch now is almost out of the
question and the creeks are entirely
too high to run timber. The rains last
week and the week previous must have
been general.
For the last two weeks we haven’t
said much about the railroad but it is
all right just the same. All contracts
to get the mouey to finish the line
have been signed and a large shipment
if rail is now in transit to Lyons. When
this rail gets here we will see some ac
tivity. Rest assured that the road is
all right.
Mrs. Brown Mere.
Mrs. Zora Badger Brown <*f New
Smyrna is in Lyons, stopping at Mrs.
Godwin’s. A U- D. C., D. A. R.. a
member of Masonic auxiliaries and
other organizations, she has traveled
extensively, and is a talented writer,
thoroughly conversant with special and
feature work. She is now engaged in
writing up various Southern cities and
towns, and is fortunate in hav
ing this city on her itinerary. Her visit
here will no doubt result jn a fine
write-up of the place, for she is infat
uated with the city. The Progress
acknowledges with pleasure a call
from the talented lady Wednesday.
News came to the city Monday that
W. D. DeLoach, a prominent farmer
down in the Elza neighborhood had
died suddenly. Mr. DeLoach has been
sick for several months but he was
able to get out and look about the
farm. It has only been a few weeks
since he was in the city and he said
then he was improving. He was sud
denly taken Monday morning, how
ever, and death claimed his soul. He
was a good man, a splendid farmer,
and we deeply sympathize with his
family.
Say, folks, this is September, and we
are to have a city election the first of
the new year. We don’t say this to
cause political strife but we do want
to say that we have had a very good
administration for the last two years
and we want to suggest that all fac
tions come together and unite to keep
on having good administrations. We
don’t know whether a single mau now
in office would serve again or not, but
we have thought they were doing
well and we see no need for a change
if they will work in harness again,
Farm lauds in Toornbs county are
going up so fast that we wont be sur
prised a bit to see them worth SIOO per
acre at no distant date. Lots of land
that sold a few years ago for $2 and $4
per acre are now going at S4O and SSO.
We have thousands of acres, however,
yet in the woods that can be bought
comparatively cheap and this land can
soon be put in shape to sell for the
larger price.
Judge Mason and Road Superintend
ent McLeod are working hard to re
pair the damage to the roads and the
people must not get impatient. The
county has only 24 men and this gang
can’t be split up much. Our road gang
has done a great lot of work and there
is no excuse for the unrest. If they will
be patient we will soon all be satisfied.
Judge Williams left last Friday even
ing for Asheville and other mountain
resorts in North Carolina. He will also
go to Tate Springs, Tenn., where he
will spend at least, a week. The Judge
has worked hard for the last few years
and we hope the vacation he is now
taking will benefit, his health.
