j,Y meet, which was held last Thursday,
; Friday and Saturday, was a decided
H success from eveiy point of view.
I There were twelve schools repre-
I sented and each school brought a
% strong contingent of followers intent j

Homes had been provided for about
, 150 contestants and teachers and ear

t noon the city was swarming with vis
it itors and then the fun began. Kach

|: over to the boys and girls and they
took charge of it.
I The debate was held at the city
| auditotium. and court house Thursday
f evening at 8. Fort Valley and Gray
mont-Summit being the contesting
f schools. Graymont-Summit took
the affirmative side of the question
| and Fort Valley the negative, the for
mer winning the debate. Immedi-
I; ately following the debate a reception
*■ was held for the visitors and contest

| was under the supervision of the Pa
s'rent-Teacher Association. Here the
K visitors and citizens generally gath-
I ered and spent several happy hours.

On Friday evening the Music and
Recitation Contest- were held at the
city auditorium, and long before the
appointed hour for starting standing
room only could be had and even this
gave out and many were turned away
on account of the immense crowd.
On Saturday morning at 9 o’clock
the athletic events were pulled off.
This is always an important event
at the meets, many schools making a
! specialty of this part of the program.
Practically all the schools contesting
showed rare ability and careful
training in each event. Fort Valley
won first place in athletics, with 21
points, Summit second, with 17. and
Abbeville third, with 11.
In the literary events. Graymont-
Summit won first place, with 19
points. Swainsboro 13, and Hawkins
ville 10 A number of the other
schools also made good records as is
shown by the tabie below. The L.
stands for literary. A. for athletics,
and T. for total.

It is the general opinion of the
teachers and contestants that this
was the best meet ever held by the
Association. Everybody seemed to
have a good time and many favora-

tors about Hawkinsvill- and the man
ner in which she conducted the meet.
At the meeting of the Executive
Committee, Fort Valley, Swainsboro,
Dublin and Abbeville asked for the
meet next year, and it was decided
to go to Dublin. —Hawkinsville Dis

MONEY RECEIVED FOR
CONFEDERATE PENSIONERS.
Ordinary P. S. Hagan last week re
ceived the check for the Confederate
soldiers and widows on the old list,
the money sent him being sufficient
to pay each one SIOO. They will be
due $25 additional, which they will
receive at a later date when the
money is collected by the state.
Pensioners on the new list will not |
he paid at this time, being necessary :
for the legislature to ineeet and make
provision for their payment before!
they can receive their money.
CITY’S AFFAIRS FOUND
IN SPLENDID SHAPE.
The audit of the hooks of the city
was completed some time ago and
copies of the report are now in the
hands of the city officials. The aud
itors tfound everything in good shape
and commended City Clerk Duggan
for the accurate condition in which
they found the city's records.
It is possible that the city authori
ties will order a synopsis of the re
port published for the purpose of
acquainting the citizens with the fi
nancial condition of the town.

make your return, as I am compelled
to close my books at an early date,

gathering is two-fold: First, to or
ganize a B. Y. P. U. Association,
and second, for the spiritual uplift of
our young people Much time has
been spent on the arrangement of
the program and some of our best
speakers have secured for this
occasion. We ar.; anxious that at
least fifty of the young people in
the Association take advantage of
this Institute. All who live within
the bounds of the Association are
especially urged to be one of our del
egates. Come, whether you have
sent your name or not. We will
have a place for you. No registra
