by all, Miss Fannie Blitch winning
the contest. Miss Blitch gave a
reading that was greatly enjoyed by
all present.

DARBY-CARTER.
Tuesday afternoon at 5:30, at the
home of the bride’s parents, Mr, and
Mrs. W. L. Darby, occurred the
wedding of Miss Juel Darby and Mr.
Onis Carter, Rev. J. T. B. Ander
son officiating.
The wedding was "a beautiful home
affair and was witnessed by a large
number of friends and relatives of
the popular couple. The entire low
er floor of the house was thrown
open and attractively decorated. The
ceremony was performed on the wid c
verandah of the home, which was a
bower of green with white flowers.
The yvedding party stood before an
larch of white, entwined with green,
pedestals being placed on each side
for the candlesticks with white un
shaded tapers.
Before the ceremony, Miss Tyra
Stanley, accompanied by Miss F.ula
Peterson, sang “All For You’’ and
“Until,” which was followed by the
wedding march.
F’irst came the ribbon bearers —
Misses Maurine and P-mily Darby,
Mary Nell Breedlove and Margaret
Carter, two dressed fii white and
two in pink. They marched through
the house and onto the verandah,
carrying pink and white ribbon, and
an aisle for the 'wedding
party. Next came Dorothy Darby in
a pink Cupid’s costume, followed by
the flower git Is, Misses F rances, El
oise and Miriam Darby, dies e'd in
white and pink. Mi.s Ruby Darby
was maid of honor and wore pink
organdie, with pink maline hat, trim
med with pink ostrich band and car
ried a 'bouquet of pink roses.
The bride entered with her broth
er, Dr. V. 1., Darby, and was never
more beautiful than in her wedding
gowrf of white crepe de chine elab
orately trimmed with lace; lace hat
with long maline streamer and os
trich band, and carried an arm bou
quet of bride’s roses, showered wifrh
lillies of the valley.
Mr. P. M. Powell was the groom’s
best man.
The impressive ring ceremony was
used. *
Following the ceremony an inform*
al reception was held.
Punch was served before and after
the ceremony by Misses Beth Ander
son, Mary Lester, Nellie Jenkins, La
dye Meadows, and Miss Abbie Joe
Gordon presided at the bride’s book.
The marriage is the culmination
of a love affair of a number of years
and united two of Vidalia’s promi
nent families. The popularity of the
couple was attested by a large num
ber of beautiful and useful presents,
which were displayed in the living
room of the home.
Mr. and Mrs. Carter left on the
evening train for points of interest
in Florida. The bride’s traveling
costume was a suit of midnight blue,
Poiret twill, with hat anJ accesso
ries to match.
Among the out-of-town guests at
the wedding were Mrs. J. H. Breed
love of Douglas, Mr. and Mrs. ' F.
W. Darby of Statesboro, Dr. and
Mrs. V. L. Darby of Brunswick,
Mr. A. P. Darby of Douglas, Mrs.
A. Pinholster of Glennville and the
Misses Kelly of Alma.
