The Talbot county Agricultural
ty met last 'tdflsday and the meeting
was organized by the president, Dr W
R Neal, in the chair. Tho minutes of
the previous meeting were read and con
firmed.
The deferred reports ot tho delegates
to the Thomasvillo meeting of tho State
; Agricultural Convention being called for,
| Messrs. W X Dennis and Z T Stephen
-1 son responded in detaile l and interest
ing addresses. The request ot the State
convention to our Society* in reference to
further legislation on the “fence 1 *
tion was conveyed by Mr Stephenson in
appropriate remarks.
By motion, so much of the minutes of
the last meeting as refers to thog discus
sion of the question, the “Fence Law,"
by disputants, was reconsidered and the
matter left open for general discussion.
In order that the negative should be rep
resented several gentleman, among them
Dr Wlt Neal, and Mr M Dixon, made
arguments on that side. On the necesai
ty ot ieuciug in the stock, instead of
fencing them out, nearly everv one in the
house was agreed. Strong speeches on
this line were mads by Messrs. J F Lit
tle, J B Gorman, Z T Stephenson, W 11
Culpepper, T R Lumsden, Gardner Cul
pepper and others. Tne President ex
pressed lnmsslf as in favor of the fence
law amt as also willing to aid iu any reform
that would contribute to a more there
control ot labor and build up tne pros
perity of the country.

i marked interest, as Mr Lumsden has ex

President, in the chair, met last Tuesday.
Tue minutes of the last, meeting were
mad by the Secretary, Mr W T Dennis,
and confirmed by the Association.
Miscellaneous business being dispatch
ed, the premium list was next discuss
ed and finally referred to its appropriate
committee lor completion. The commit
tee met on last Friday, enlarged tho lisj
in ihe ladies* department, and made such
other alterations as were instructed by
the directors. The $20.00 premium on
five acres of cotton was camign i o as to
refer to upland cot on.

Arrived.
Since our last issue nine car loads
ot iron have arrived and are being rapid
ly placed in position. The road was
completed to Siuithsbore on last Fris
day, and by Wednesday the'construction
party will be within two and one fourth
miles of Talbotton. It is hoped that no
further delay iu the iron will oc*%n\ hk
the directory are very anxious to open
our road for business. It was largely
through the efforts ol Mr W II Martin,
who spent several days in Atlanta l ist
week that we secured the last shipments
of rails. If the iron is forthcoming, we
will have the road completed to Talbot
ton by the first day of May.
The new station house at Sraitlisboro
is completed. Work will be commenc
ed at an early day on the depot build
ing in Talbotton.
