Georgia's Wealth.
llßit IMMENSE FItUITCROPS AND HOW
TO UTILIZE THEM. A SUBJECT OF
L VvsT IMt’OIiTANCE TO THE POOLE,
A low days since an editor of the
Mail had occasion to call upon Me-
Bride & Cos, of this city for the de
livery of a litter from southern
Georgia, inquiring about Cherry’s
Fruit Evaporator, This! naturally
inutroduced the great, t’-'pie, which
is now agitating the people if Geor
gis through all its borders that of
utilizing tiio immense fruit crop,
the larger part of which has been
heretofore lost. Tito pooplo have
recently waked up to the fact that
by proper handling of their fruit
crops millions of dollars may be
annually brought into the State,
thereby crea'ing another and con
stant source of enrichment. The
quickest and most economical mode
of preparing the fruit for market is
therefore a vastly important matter,
and it is the duty ol the press to
aid the pople with all attainable
information on this point. Col A J
Mcßride has ln-ori recently devot
ing much time to tho investigation
ns, will appear in the course of tho
into, view.
Certainly, was his ploasant reply
to a remark from us 1 will give yoi
all the information lam able. The
sabject is indeo 1 oao of great mag
nitude lo the pooplo of Georgia as
it involves not hundreds, but hun
dreds of thousands of dollars.
Think of the stream of wealth flow
ing annually into tho State from
tho sale of the fruit crop properly
handled. I have therefore become
deeply interested iu securing to the
people the boat method of utilizing
these crops. By the best, I mean
tiio cheapest, and also the one,
which will command tho highest
market prices.
Have you been making test.?
Yes, la' t year I looked into tho
matter somewhat, util not until this
did I take hold of it in earnest. I
have riot only experimented myself
ui li evaporators, but I liavo had
tests made for me by disinterested
parties at a distance. I have ob
tained from all parts of the country,
circulars and information touching
the various evaporators iu use, and
by comparison of their claims and
ligurus with thoso of our own tests,
1 feel sure that I liavo disc >veiad
just what tho people want, and what
will save them ol large sums of
money iu tho preparation of llieir
fruits for market.
Col Mcßride hero showed the
writer some diiod peaches and
whortleberries which seemed to tho
taste as perfect in flavor as tho fruit
right from the tree. These, said he,
, re samples of fruit dried by Cher
ry’s evaporator. The fruit was poor
and was prepared by parties in anoth
er comity, who subjected it too long
to the drying process. Notwithstand
ing all this on sending it to New York
I was informed that it would command
the best prices, and as you can your
self see from a comparison of figures,
the time of preparing it was much less
than on any other evaporator costing
a fourth or third more than Cherry’s.
Thus satisfying myself I determined to
give the people the benefit of my test
and information and have arranged to
supply the State with Cherry’s evapo
rators. lam satisfied, that on tr al
every one will find it the cheapest and
quickest upon the market, with a sav
ing of one fourth or one-third to the
farmer. The principal of tlie patent
is drying by ‘-team —not by hot air, as
in the case of all other evaporators.
In this way the flavor and juices of the
fruits are better preset ved and tho
lruit require less attention in prep
aration us it is less liable to injury
and loss from burning.
Where are the Cherry’s evapora
tors manufactured?
Bight heroin Atlanta. Wo s all
bo able to supply every demand for
them, though sale*, through coun
ty righlils and direct are increasing
heavily.
A well known gentleman of
Whiteeburg. Ga., says that people
can cut their wheat in the morning,
tnesh it at noon, and by drying it
en Cherry’s evaporator, they can
have a beautiful flour of tbjir ow n
production for market, which was
done by himself this season.—At

A Happy Thought.—The British l
