PLAY OF UNIVERSAL APPEAL
Millions Know Wrongs of Circumstan
tial Evidence Convictions.
Every community has known some
thing or other of circumstantial evi
dence and the manners in which peo
pie have been unjustly condemned, only
to learn later in life that they were
innocent. Thousands of cases are on
record of people who have been sent
to Jail for life and hundreds who have
been hanged, guillotined and even
burned at the stake, they having been
convicted on circumstantial evidence.
“Public Opinion," the latest Lasky pro
duction on the Paramount Program,
gives an excellent story and portrays
in a thrilling maiwier the fact that
circumstantial evidence and public
opinion ofttimes condemn wrongly.

STRANGE COINCIDENCE.
Photoplay Tells Real Life Story Before
It Actually Happened.
The most dramatic court room scene
that has ever been pictured on the
screen is found in “Public Opinion.” a
Paramount Picture produced by La sky.
One is impressed with the similarity
of the court scene with that of a fa
mous murder case recently tried in
New York City.

The first exposition on the motion

is shown in “Public Opinion," a Par

from the pen, of Margaret Turnbull, in
which Blanche Sweet plays the leading
role.
Blanche Sweet is one of the most in

which she has appeared she has been
seen in a totally different role and
gives each one a different characteriza

all-work, and in “Public Opinion” she
appears as a trained nurse on trial for
murder.
How a sensational newspaper report
prejudices the mind of the public
against this young woman, who Is ab
solutely Innocent of all wrong, and
how her whole future happiness is
jeopardized by what is supposed to
have been one false step, is shown in
a gripping and entertaining manner.
One of the unusual features of this
striking photodrama Is the efforts of
the spirit of the woman the nurse is
supposed to have poisoned to direct
the hand of justice towards the guilty
person. Throughout the story until the
murderer ts finally forced to confess
the spirit of the dead woman tries to
bring the guilty to Justice.
Miss Sweet is surrounded by a cast
of unusual excellence, including such
well known players as Earle Foze,
Edythe Chapman, Elliott Dexter, Tom
Forman and Raymond Hatton.
The production is one of the most
lavish the I.asky Company has ever
made. The big court room scene is an
