THE BARTOW TRIBUNE
ALL READY FOR WEEK
OF JOY AND FESTIVAL
Great Fair Ready For Opening And Business Flouses to Close So That
All Can Enjoy Brilliant Events For Four Days And Nights.
What promises to be the greatest
county fair ever held in the history of
Bartow county will begin next Tues- !
day morning, October 10, and extend
through Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday, day and night.
The business houses of Cartersville
will close each day at one o clock,
which is the hour the racing begins,
and at which time the greatest crowds
assemble at the tai. grounds. The
clerks and employees, as well as the
proprietors, wish to attend the after
noon features of the fair, which in
cludes fine racing, and to that extent
also co-operate with the fair managers
in bringing to the fair grounds as
many people as possible.
The city will be thronged with visi
tors from all over the county as well
as from Atlanta, Rome, Chattanooga
and points between, and everything
looks favorable for a most successful
fair in every respect. With a week of
fair weather, it is predicted that un
precedented crowds will be In attend
ance and the fair managers predict
that each and every one will be pleas
ed with what is exhibited and what is
put on fin the w. n y 0 f amusement.
The reduced price of entrance tick
ets, now being sold at 25 cents each, will
be an added inducement to a large at
tendance. Those with large families
can afford to take all of them into the
fair grounds with an entrance fee of
only 25 cents each, whereas, many con
sider fifty cents a burdensome charge
and one which as to large families
amounts to a formidable sum of mon
ey. No charge will be made at the
gates for automobiles if parked in an
area provided for the purix>se which
| will not in any way interfere with or
I obstruct the management of the fair
ior the view of the spectators. How
ever, if those who enter in automo
biles wish to remain in their cars,
they can drive them withiiin the race
track enclosure by paying a fee of
fifty cents for runabouts and a dollar
for touring cars. These will be pro
vided with space which will give the
occupants of the cars an excellent
view of the races. This space will be
in front of the grand stand along the
race track streffth alongside the inside
rail. It is predicted that scores of cars
will use this space.
The grand stand has been greatly
enlarged and a 25 cents admission
charge to the grand stand will be
made this year. The directors believe
that the grand stand will be crowded
as in former years and even more so,
and that during the afternoons and
evenings this portion of the fair will
bt a scene of activity and brilliancy
and popular assemblage which will
give additional evidence of the gener
al esteem and iropular estimation of
the Bartow County Fair.
It is believed that a tremendous at
tendance will be present at the first
day of the fair this year. The fair
managers claim that no one day has
any superiority in interest over any
other day and, hence, a large attend
ance on the first day will furnish
those who go as much entertainment
as attendance upon any other day. and
that it will further serve to make
more popular the attendance upon all \
days of the fair.
The fair is on and Cartersville citi- 1
zens, old and young, rich and i>oor, of j
all degrees, are expected to co-operate !
in making this great occasion one of
memorable interest to the people of j
the county.
The horse show at the fair grounds
this year promises to be one of the
best and largest ever held in the
south. Coming during the week be
tween the horse show at Knoxville and
the horse show in Atlanta, Carters
viile will thus be favored with the
best show horses of Tennessee, Geor
gia and Alabama. In fact, all the
horses that will be shown in Atlanta
will, with few exceptions, be shown
at CartersvAlle, while many of the
horses at the Knoxville show will like
wise be here. In addition to this will
be local horses and those from Rome,
Chattanooga and Birmingham. Ex
perienced riders, famed far and wide
for their grace and exce’lent horse
manship, will be here and will have
as their mounts these famous show
horses of the south.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ezelle, of Nash
ville, bringing with them twenty
horses, Miss Margaret McKee and
Miss Mary Allgood Jones, of Atlanta,
bringing with them three jumpers, as
well as other famous drivers and rid
ers, will lend their presence to this
occasion ns active participants in the
events each night.
It promises to be a great social
event. Asa result of the fact that a
horse show will he put on, many pri
vate social affairs have been arranged
and men and women of prominence

Cartersville gave its first horse

popular, as it does everywhere, tit was
put on this year for four nights. In
deed, there was a call for it last year
for another night, but arrangements
had only been made for the one even
ing and, hence, it was impossible to
repeat the performance. This year,
however, it will take place every night.
Fifteen cents admission at the gate
will be charged and 25 cents admis
sion to the grand stand and paddock,
and it is predicted that the largest
night crowds ever on the fair grounds
will be in the paddock enclosure.
Confederate Veterans’ Day at the
county fair will be next Thursday.
In addition to the exercises attend
ing the day generally there will be a
fiddlers convention. Many of Georgia’s
famous fiddlers will be on hand and a
great treat will be in store for those
who attend and who like to hear the

All confederate veterans of Bartow
county, or those who entered the con

entitled to the privileges of the day.
Capt. J. J. Calhoun has been delegated

will be well attended to.
Sami. W. Wilkes, of Atlanta, has
been, invited and has accepted the .in

will be at the fair grounds. Mr. Wilkes
is a. native of Bartow county, was one
time agent of the Western & Atlantic
railroad at Allatoona and has now
risen to a place of influence and power
in the rajlrcad world. He is the Divis
ion Freight Agent of the Georgia, Rail
road and his selection for the place of
f rator of the day was well and appro
priately bestowed and Mr. Wilkes will
measure the requirements of the
occasion.
The local chapter of the Daughters
of the Confederacy will have in charge
the arrangements as to the comfort of
the veterans. Lunch will be served
and a general good time has been ar
ranged. This w>iii be free of expense
to the veterans and it is earnestly
hoped that they will all be here at this
time.
A great crowd will be on hand on
this day. Heretofore it has always
been the record day for attendance.
The racing, and all other features of
the fair, will be particularly interest
ing and every one who can should
make it a point to be on hand. It wiiill
be an opportunity to pay a tribute of
i respect to the heroes of the Host Cause
| as well as receiving a full day’s pay
j in amusement and eoiertaHviuent, to
eay nothing of exhilaration and infor
mation.
Great interest is being taken in the
school fair and woman’s exhibit.
The corn club boys, as well as the
canning club girls, will have on hand
an unusually interesting display. To
gether with the exhibit of the corn
club boys will be their records which
furnish valuable data, showing the j
progress made during the year. Not
withstanding the disturbing elemental
troubles had in the middle of the sea
son from floods and excessive rains,
these boys will show the mettle they
are made of and that it takes intelli
gent work to bring about what they
have accomplished.
Canning Clubs.
Entitled to the highest praise will
be the girls' canning club exhibits.
Miss Jessie Burton has given this de
partment of school work her usual in
telligent and energetic attention, and
site will have every reason to be pos
sessed with laudable pride when the
exhibits of the girls’ canning clhbs
are set out at the fair. Together with
this will be the records. Those who
have seen the canned fruits and veg
etables are unstinted in their praise
and make the unqualified assertion
