One hundred and twenty (rue bills
were found at Forsyth Superi r
Court for selling whiskey without li¬
cense at meeting. Forsyth is a pro¬
hibition county, we believo.
A Mr. CoOPek, living near Mnriet
ta saya ho has seen n cow go to a pot
of boiling pens, in d eat thu whole
business without inconvenience, Tins
fa hard to digest but wc are inclined
to believe it becouso we have seen
a hound £9 to u boiling pot and take
out a piece of meat, Ii was dcciil
edly inoqtivehTunt to the dog, though
for he howled like a wolf, but slid he
held on.
It has been confidently (inserter!
that the be«t English scholars in the
last legis'aluro were Ihriso meti who
wore bred at tho Georgia old field
schools. Let the Georgia old field
schools be revived. Wo cannot give
our children an education by mmhI
ing them to a three months public
school. So lot ns build up our schools
all over .ho to.ntryby employing
good teachers for the year round.
By doing so we can gut, fuli credit
foi whut the public will pay fur each
pupil.
Iris staled in insurauro circles
that ull the It fidiug English Insur¬
ance Companies doing business in
Georgia into red to close out on cot¬
ton risks. This step is doubtless in
ducedly the great cotton fires at
Charleston and Savannah. It is uti
deuiable that tho risk on largo cot
ton Warehouses is very great, and
we thiuk the manner of building
them in thu future ought to be gov¬
erned by luw. To require a fire'
pioof warehouse to be built iu sepa¬
rate compoitments so,as to expose
not more than ten thousand bales at
one time to a lire awed bo a vtry
great saving, to both in surer end in
Bured. At present theie is lco much
needless exposure.
Gov. McDaniel, iu ail interview
published iu the New Oilcan* Time. .s
Democrat, speaks very encouragingly
of the prosperity of Georgia. Popu¬
lation has increased, wraith has done
like wise ut the rate of G 2 million per
^ear, and tho State debt reduced
from 11 millions under republican
rule to ff| millions. Taxes have been
correspondingly reduced from 5 mills
to 21 mills. He does not spouk so
well of the Common School System.
This is in marked contrast with the
action of the State School Commis¬
sioner, who is endeavoring to collect
up information lor tho puvposo of
refuting tho general declaration
throughout the State that the public
schools are ruining the private
schools without giving an tqniavknt
for the loss.
Public AdmUileii'iitoi'.
Among other acts passed by the
last Legislature was one creating the
office of County or Public Amiuistra
tor. The Ordinaries of the respec¬
tive counties throughout the State
have power to appoint, for four years
at a time, a County Administrator.
This officer is to take cliargo of all
estates which are unrepresented or
where parties fail to give ti e bond
requited by law. They will be al
loured all the fees and emoluments
each as are allow .id other adminis
trators. The bond which they wil'
be required to give is fixed at $5,0^0,
and tbe Ordinary is invested with
full and complete authority to In
crease that bond us often aud when¬
ever he may deem it uecessarv. The
term of the first appointment will
expire on tbe first Monday in March,
1885, and the subsequent appoiut
inent every 1 f nr years thereafter.
The Public Administrator *ill be
