Jasp ir Moore Lodged in Jail
Rotril'iitioii for the slutighti’r of
tile innoernt is coming. On Monday
evening hist. Bailiff 1Toy Holder ve¬
ilin',ed from Kufunla with a negro
•min named Jasper Moore. This
an m was indicted in 1880 by tin
Grand Jury of Stewart county for
the murder of Lis wife’s grand child
;t appears that the negro was great¬
ly displeased because the child was
left by its mother as a charge upon
him, ho sought to avenge himself for
the act of a t.lionglitlcsfl mother by
abusing the child. It was hastily
buried and exhumed after several
lavs, for examination by a Coroner’s
impest. Testimony in the inquest
developed the fact that the chjul was
beaten to death. As to whether the
prisimei did the beating remains to
be seen after n Jury is etnpantiidled.
Moore says the child was killed bv
a blow from the limb of a tree fall
ieg. If the limb is proven"to have
been in his bauds at the time it tel!
upon the child, Jasper may swing
The child was only two years old
and was evidently flayed to death.
