HULL KERR, Editor.
Revenge is the onlv debt that
is wrong to pay.
A happy family is but an ear¬
lier heaven.
Take your joy with you or you
will not find it even in heaven,
It is nice to be handsome hut
it is good deal handsomer to be
nice.
Man, like the lire, is apt to
torment women by going out al
night.
The best way to manage a wife
is to keep yourself always her
lover.
A step taken for mother is a
pearl dropped into your future
diadem.
It is worth a thousaud dollars
a year to have the habit of look¬
ing on the bright tide of life.
Children need love, tender
ness and sympathy as much as
tlowers need air and sunshine.
There never was a woman but
was just aching to tell some oth¬
er woman how to do up her hair.
To make home happy is an an
—an art a good many
have either lost or never found
There is nothing gained in the
government of children by say¬
ing that which is not preformed.
If your wife is the beet woman
in the worlu, tell her so; it will
keep her young and lengthen
her life.
The reason why women do not
propose is supposed to be due to
fcbe fact that they want to have
the last word.
Men can be found who are
willing to go to Africa as mis¬
sionaries who are not willing to
lake care of a cross baby for the
tired wife for half an hour.
Train your eyes to reBt on tin
brightest spots in life. Pass tin
darkness on tne other side. One
of the sunniest places on earth
is the spot made sacred bv the
hallowed influence of those we
love in our own homes.
Of all the things for which u
young person should strive, a
good character stands at the
head nt the list. It may be hard
to get on without wealth and
education, but, without a good
character no permanent and en¬
during success can be obtained.
The time to have the brightest
lamps lit, the hottest
ready, to wear the gayest dress¬
es and hunt up the funniest sto¬
ries in one’s memory, is the cold,
rainy night, when there will not
be any company, but when the
home-coming husband, sons or
brothers will doubly enjoy the
cheer.
Of all places, praise should be
most lavishly used in the family
circle. How many of us keep all
our words of kindness for strang
ers, for those in whom we have
not one spark of vital interest;
and to the hearts dependent up¬
on ns for sympathy and apprecia¬
tion, have scarcely one cheery
word. If we are so niggardly in
the expenditure of the sweet
charities of life that we
squander conirnendatians on the
home folks and strangers too, by
all means let the home folks
come in first for their share.
IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED IN
MURRAY COUNTY SCHOOL
SYSTEMS.
The needs of Murrav county
school are so various and the
changes to be desired are so
radical compared to the system
that has prevailed since our fore¬
fathers were school children that
the difficulties must he overcome
somehow, and the defects must
be begun to be remedied some¬
where.
In the lirst place, we shall
never have better school system
in Murray county until the pat¬
rons appreciate and take more
interest in the work. In riding
over the county the meditative
observer must be made to won¬
der in what stage of civilization
he is living, as be notices the
little shabby, barn like sheds
purported to be school houses.
In some of them the windows
are all shattered, the weather
boarding is scarred and torn
away, the doors are left open
and in the fall when the teacher
enters to begin the year’s work,
he is greeted by upturned seats,
broken desks, scarred black
boards and a floor covered with
a deep coating of dirt filth all
in a hapless confusion. Yet the
patrons go on carelessly, pay tax¬
es to erect these buildings,
grumble about how high their
taxures, and all the time stand
by with folded hands ami watch
these taxes wasted by letting
their school building go to a
wreck.
Who is to blame for it! commis¬
sioner certainly is not,because lie
can’t see what is going on in
every building in the county;
the teacher is not, except during
the tune he occupies the building
in carrying on hio work. Cer¬
tainly the building is in the
hands of the patrons for whom it
is elected, and the local board,
and the care they take of it is a
key to their interest in school
work.
The state of affairs is not con¬
fined to the building alone, play¬
grounds which by a little expend¬
iture of time and energy could
be beautified ami made to blos¬
som and bloom with sweet flow¬
ers, are so bleak and barren as
to Saharra. If every patron in
the community would furnish
a few nails, five plank and two
post, every school ground in the
county would have a creditable
fence around it in one week’s
time. If the girls should spend
x part of each reccess in setting
iut and caring for flowers, and
die boys in setting out shade
..rees and making graveled walks
mr ragged school premnnses
would soon be transformed in to
i perfect Eden.
Here are two ways in which
the school system of Murray Oo.
•an be materially improved. But
how are those changes to be
brought about. The school house
can be cared for and kept clean
by brooms, soap and frequent
scrubbing. The building wind
ivvs, seats and etc? can be prot¬
ected by keeping tne doors lock¬
ed and requiring any damages
or abuse of the said property to
be paid for in good and lawful
United States money. Walks
can be made and useful lesson in
tlowers gardening taught by the
teachers. The grounds may be
fenced by the parents getting
pole hole diggers, planks and
nails and going to work and
building the fences. You say
that school system ought to be
improved. You kuow how to
effect these improvement, it is
up to you to help bring it about
A Citizen.
The best way to keep the boys
at home is to make it an object
for them not to go out to seek
amusements, for these they will
have. Every farm home ought
to be made a very heaven on
earth to its inmates. Not alone
the farm home either, but all the
houses in the land. Learn each
child’s nature, and then work
some home charm to keep him
in your circle.

Eat What
You want of the food you need
Kodol will digest it*
Tou need a sufficient amount of
good wholesome food and more than
this you need to fully digest it.
Else you can’t gain strength, nor
can you strengthen your stomach If
It Is weak.
You must eat in order to live and
maintain strength.
You must not diet, because the
body requires that you eat a suffic¬
ient amount of food regularly.
But this food must be digested,
and it must be digested thoroughly.
When the stomach can’t do it,
you must take something that will
help the stomach.
The proper way to do Is to eat
what you want, and let Kodol di¬
gest the food.
Nothing else can do this. When
the stomach is weak it needs help;
you must help It by giving it rest,
tad Kodol will do that.
