Nashville, Tenn.—-The state senate/ despite the fact
that Gov. Patterson has recommended local option in strong
est lerms, has passed the state wide prohibition bill by vote
of 20 to 13. The legislature completed the Work by a vote
of 02 to 30 so that it wil become effective next July or Janu
ary-
Gov. Patterson will probably veto the measure, but if
this done an effort will doubtless be made to pass it over his
bead. Public sentiment seems strong for prohibition.
South Carolina.
COLUMBIA, R <1.—Gov. Ansel in his annual message to
the state legislature favors state wide prohibition and recom
mends that wet counties now be allowed to vote out dis
pensaries if they so dedire. In addition to this he recom
mends that ik) dispensary be allowed to bottle or blond
liquors.

A well defined movement to remove
that portion of the state reformatory,
which will hereafter be known as the
whi te division, from Milledgeville to a
farm near Griffin has been started and
it seems probable that it will be carried
-through if some objection is not raised
Everybody In Milledgeville realizes the
amportande of improvements at the re
formatory, but according to most of the
men who exepressed themselves on the
subject they regard Baldwin county as
the place for the best division, of the
reformatory to be located. Consequent
ly they want the white reformatory to
remain here.
' Another movement looks to the estab
lishment of a state farm where all tbe
white prisoners would be located and
this would take many from the state
farm here. About 1,600 acres will be
needed for the reformatory and about
5,600 acres for the proposed new state
farm.
