Methodists Will Settle
Question of church
Dr. Chas. E. Dowman, {Presiding El
der of the Oxford district is in Miiledge-
yille for the purpose of holding his first
quarterly conference here. Sunday
afternoon the final details concerning
the construction of the new Methodist
church will be decided upon and it is ex
pected that the various committees who
will have charge of the different de
partments will be appointed at the
meeting,

MRS. MARTHA BEARDEN
DIED FRIDAY MORNING.
After a lingering illness, fighting a
hopeless battle against the grim des
troyer, Mrs. Martha Bearden, aged
about 70 years, of Madison, Ga., died
at the home of her daughter. Mrs. J. S. j
Stova l’ in Milledgeyille. Mrs. Bearden •
was one of the best known ladies in th s
section of the state and her death is
lamented by all who knew her.

At Odd Fellows hall Thursday night
one of the most enjoyable social events
of the week was the old fashioned spell
ing bee Jield under the auspices of the
ladies of the Methodist church. The
whole evening was filled full of pleasure
for those present anJ in addition to the
spelling there was speech-making by
pupils of the school of Experience.
Mrs. Lucy Walker won first .prize in
spelling and Miss Katherine Grier won
second. The evening was such a suc
cessful one those present unanimously
voted to have it repeated without fail
in the next month.
