♦ SELECTION OF A WELL SITE. «
♦ «
♦ ♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦♦
The site of a well should be well
selected as the general health of the
family depends to a great extent on
the drinking water. The location of
the well should be as near the dwell
ing as possible for convenience, but
far enough away to escape the drain
age from the kitchen window and
waste, waters. Be sure and dig a
good distanco from the horse and
cow lots.
Pig pens and low sloppy places
should be avoided. The water drains
from those places to the nearest low
piace and if the well is close by all
of the impurities taken up in theso
filthy places will drain to it.—L. S.
Wolfe.

The best way to warm poultry Is
I by giving them something to do. So
keep plenty of Utter on the door and
scatter grain In It. Make it a rule
to leave the laying hens to them
selves during the fore part of the
day. That Is their busy time and
they do not like to be disturbed then.

In charging an incubator with eggs
they should all be of uniform size and
color. The brown Bhelis are thick
er than the white shells, and there
fore demand different treatment.
Moisture or ventilation sufficient for
the one class would not do for the
other. This is the cause of many
failures.
If there is any bud weather com
ing to us, it generally makes Its ap
pearance during February. The wise
poultrymnn is the one who has al
ready prepared for that emergency,
and his henB are not only com
fortable, but are laying eggs in large
quantities.
One who is very successful In get
ting good hatches with Incubators
savs allowing the heat to run too low,
when chicks are hatching Is one of
•he main causes of dead in the shell
chicks.
The fanner with the hens, enough
nf them, rightly managed can nnv as
ho goes—no Btore bill rats nibbling
at the bottom the home craft.
Vo account book will be needed
to figure out the poultry profits If you
furnish hiding places for rats, near
tho poultry yard.
When man is a tuccesv he claims the
credit; when he is a failure ho finds
some woman to blame for it.
