A DREAM SONG
ten bv Judge D. B. Sanford and will no
doubt be read with much interest here.
Milledgevitle, Ga.
Editor Confederate Veteran: —
There seems to be some dispute ar to
what soMiers or command of solders
were the last to leave Richmond on the
morning of the 3rd of April, 1865. My
recollection, is that Thillip’s Georgia
Legion Infantry were the rear guard
and the last soldiers to leave that city
on that day. When this command cross
ed the bridge over the Janus river, the
bridge was on fire in many places on
each side, and we had to run with all
our might and shinney from side to side
of the bridge to keep from being bunt
'd to death. No other soldiers could
have crossed that bridge after we did.
This command left camp near Duruy's
BliilT about 12 o’clock Sunday night,
April 2, 18C5, and reached Richmond a
little after daylight Monday Morning. 1
was captain of The Greene Rides,
Company A.. Phillip's Georgia Legion
Infantry. Does any othei old Voteri.n
remember differently? D. B. Sanford.
