Fresh Fruit Flavor
In good preserves the fresh fruit flavor is very notice
able in the syrup. We know of none, not even
the best home-made, which have a syrup, of
such a rich fresh fruit taste as
Heinz Preserved
Fresh Fruits.
This quality is due tc the care with which
the fruits are selected and to the steam jacketed
kettles which preserve the aroma and flavor of
the fresh fruit. •

What We Skill Vet Accomplish.
The people of the South have in the
past labored under great disadvan
tages. and have been compelled to con
tend against many adverse circum
stances. It is not worth while at this
period of our history to discuss these
things any longer. We have by our
own efforts arrived at our present
position which is, if not all that is to be
desired, wonderfully in advance of that
which we occupied thirty or twenty or
even ten years ago; and what we have
done is only a prophecy of what we
shall accomplish. Wo say this because
we believe tnat we, the people of the
South, are just beginning to realize
the possibilities of our country and of
our country and of our work. !• rom
the farms of the South have come men
and women distinguished in all lines of
life, some of them among the very
greatest that the Nation has produced.
Better still, from these farms have also
come thousands and thousands of men
and women who day after day, and year
after year have done their part
in life’s work, often amid very dis
couraging circumstances, With un
daunted hearts and unwavering faith
The old blood has in it to-day just as
much of vitality and stamina as ever
before, and with the greater opportu
nities which are now ours, still greater
accomplishments may be expected.

Care of Children's Nails.
If a child's finger and toe nails are
properly cared for from Infancy the
fingers will lie a pretty shape and the
danger of Ingrowing too nails and other
ailments of the feet will lie lessened.
The finger nails should always he filed
and not cut. Filing the nails will keep
them thin ami delicate. The nails
should lie trimmed in an oval shape,
and if the fingers are inclined to he
blunt this will often make them taper
more. It is not wise to make the child
nervous and cross by manicuring the
nails for half an hour, for all that is
necessary is to keep the nails clean and
filed and the skin around the nail loose
aud pushed hack.
The toe ualls may he ct'.h. although
the best method Is to file them with a
nail file or an emery stick. They should
be cut straight across and not curved
to the stinpo of the toe.
Treatment For Burns.
Tu eases where the burn Is not seri
ous enough to require the services of
a doctor, almn will tie found to bring
speedy relief. Dissolve two ounces of
alum in one pint of hot water. Satu
rate cotton cloths in this solution and
keep the burn well wrapped In them.
The pain will soon cease nml the heal
ing process will commence immediate
ly. If alum is not handy, use com
mon baking powder. Sprinkle the
burned surface with tho baking soda
and then cover with a wet cloth.
When th.> burn Is only slight the pain
will cease Immediately and but one
application lie necessary, lull when the
injury extends deeper more time nml
a greater number of the baking soda
applications will lie necessary.
The white of an egg also Is excel
lent for use on burns. Apply It with
a soft brush or n wisp of ol 1 muslin.
As soon us tills dries put on another
layer of the egg.
Clcctrio Carpet Clecncr.
Fleetr!< it.v Is now being used to op
erate carpet cleaners, A i’ittidiurg
man re<e;::ly patented tin* apparatus
shown In tlie accompanying Illustra
tion, which Is more sen iceahle titan
the pneumatic cleaner for small
houses, ll resembles the familiar car-
let cleaner In appearance. A motor
operates a turbine nml brush, the rev
olutions of Hie latter agitating the nap
of tlie carpet and loosening the dirt.
Tlie turbine creates a suction, drawing
up all dust ami dirt and depositing it
In a dust receiver provided for the
purpose. It is claimed tint carpels
can be thoroughly cleared on tin floor
li'i'l every corner can ha reached.
Nothing need be moved. Attachable
appliances tire also provided for treat
ing walls, ceilings, romlccs, chande
liers, curtains, etc. Mattresses, cush
ions, upholstered furniture uml pillows
can also bo iterated ns well as cleaned
by tliis appliance. The machine works
noiselessly and quickly, l’ov.er to op
erate the apparatus can be obtained
from the ordinary incandescent socket.
Kr.ife and Fork Etiquelto.
There tm* many people who are care
ful of their table manners who are
often puzzled about certain little points
of etiquette. When, using both knife
and fork the Unify Is held Iri the right
hand und the fork in the left. When
not using the knife It should lie laid
along the side of the plate with the
blado pointing In; tlie fork is then held
in the right hand. In case tlie plate Is
passed for a second helping the knife
und fori: are laid side by side along
the side of the plate, with tlie knife
on the outside. Never hold tlie knife
and fork grasped In the hand when
passlug the plate.
For Brittlo Nails.
Brittle nails are often tlie result of
having the hands in water too much
or of using too strong soap. If the
nails ure Inclined to be brittle it Is
well to' wear rubber gloves when per
forming any household duty which
necessitates putting the hands in wa
ter. Huh olive oil into the nails every
night and then pull loose white gloves
over the hands, and they will soon re
gain their normal condition.
t Hands That Perspire.
Perspiring hands nre caused by n
poor circulation sometimes and a phys
ical weakness also. The only perma
nent way to effect a cure Is to remove
the cause, hut the work may he helped
by the use of a few drops of alcohol In
the water and a careful powdetlng of
the gloves every time they are worn.
A Word Abaut Mushrooms.
Never warm up a dish containing
mushrooms Is the caution which pbysi-
'lans give. The process of cooking is
In Itself proper, hut after getting cold
mushrooms are liable to develop Inju
rious properties and become hurtful.
Therefore throw away nny that may
he left over.
No Man is Stronger
Than His Stomach
A strong man is utrong all over. No man can be
•trong who is suffering from weak stomach with its
consequent indigestion, or from some other disease
of the stomach and its associated organs, which im
pairs digestion and nutrition. For when tlie stomach
is weak or diseased there is n loss of the nutrition
contained in food, which is the source of all physical
strength. When a man “doesn’t feel just right, M
when he doesn’t sleep well, his an uncomfortable .
feeling in the stomach after eating, is languid, nervous, irritable and despond
ent, he*is losing the nutrition needed to mukc strength.
Such a man should unc Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical
Discovery. It cures diseases ot the stomach and other
organs of digestion and nutrition. It enriches the blood,, jj
