The Wallace Ulster*.
A la-re aid solcct audience greeted
the Wallace Sisters nt the Opera Hou-o
Wednesday. Although this makes the
second appearance of there latent* d ar
tist* in ouriity this season, the rush
wa< quite as gr-at as on the occasion of
thoir Oral appearance, and it is due to
them to say that they fully sustained
• their well-earned reputation. On this
occasion their audience were treated
to a new play from their well-stocked
repertoire, called “Dora,'' a thrilling
pastoral drama, founded on Tennyson's
poem of'.hat name. Mis* Jennie’s im
personation of the heroine was true to
nature, and showed some of her rare
histrionic gifts to the best advantage.
In every sccnosbe ''held the mirror up
to nature.*' and never one- overdid her
part. Though llie piece did not call
for any high order of talent, its rendi
tion ‘*n her part and that of her able
troupe was most natural, and at limes
deeply affecting. B >th those charming
sisters-evidently understand their vocs-
. tlon, and have the further advantage of
being supported by a troupe of more
than ordiuarv merit.
This piece was followed by Plsnclie's
popular vaudeville, entitled “The Loan
of a Lover." This was exceedingly
well rendered, each performer seeming
to be especially adapted to their re

Sanitary Precaution*
As a rule have not been heretofore
observed in Albany as closely as they
should be. While wo have a compare
lively boallhy town, our people should
not ignore, altogether, tho • truism that
an ounoe of prevention is worth a
of euro. Wc hare been asked
to call attention several times to the
condition of tlie back-yards in rear of
the stores on Broad-street—not so much
their present condition, as to tho uses
to which they have lately been pub
Complaint is made that several of them
have been converted into regular wag
on-yards for the are of their customers
by severe! of the merchants, where
their stock is kept stabled and housed
daring their stay in town. All this, of
course, adds to the accumulation of filth
and rubbish in these places, and is a
source of serious anroyanco to many of
our citizens. Wc call the attention of
the City Council to this matter,-sod
tako tho liberty to remind them, that
this is a matter of public concern, and
not oap where it can be expected that
private citizen should take upon
hizaself the ungracious character of an
informer, and bring it to tkier attention
by means of a memorial or a petition
for the abatement of a nuisance. Stock
and wagon yard room is plentiful all
over the city, and wc bollire, free to
aE.and no re;won occurs to m why these
narrow hsck yards should t. converted
into Block per*. A short ordinance on
the subject would work a d-suable
change.

The Blondes Again.
Mayor Wilder, it appears, bad some
scruples the other evening after ho had
-ranted the license to the “Dizzy
Blondes" to .show, and told tho mana
ger that lie would tako care to have on
hand a censor mnrum from the alder-
manic staff to attend the performance,
with instructions to break np the show
snm-.isrily whenever he detected any-
th njr going wrong. This delicate duty
wa* inquired upon. Aldormin Jones,
wlm. as Judge of tho County Court,
wa supposed to ho well versed in the
laws rdating to public morality and
decency. This accounts for Judge
Jones* presence at the show, and as he
sat through tho performance, and tho
Blondes were uninterrupted and were
allowed to depart ur molested the next
day, it is fair to assume that the ac
counts given of the character-of the
performance Ire grossly exaggerated,

if to-day one of my family was suffer

well managed excitement that some
times sweep over communities, and tho

of American Republicanism. To-day,
the Democratic party, skillfnlly seizing
