alMMit the matter, but many of them believe he
was turned out for a money consideration, and
It will require very strong evidence and rea
sonable argument to convince them to the con
trary.
This Item contains a serloua reflec
tion upon the officers in charge of the
Dougherty county Jail.
The statement is made without a
particle of evidence, either eircum
stantinl or any other sort to substan
tiate It, and there is no doubt but that
It was taken upon the authority of one
nr two men without Inquiry as to the
general feeling In the county at large.
Tlin people of Worth county have
never made any such charge publicly,
and we believe that the opinion, above
attributed to them Is erroneous.
Much a statement could only come
from one unacquainted with the facts
la the case, which are of such a nature
ns to convince any reasonable man of
the falsity of suolt a charge.
There Is not room here to enumerate
them in detail, but suffice It to say the
men who have charge of the Jail Im-
medlalely telegraphed and mailed h|s
description to every point In this sec
tion of the State, offering a reward of
$110(1 front their own pockets for his
recovery^ If the wretch who escaped
cuttltl control that amount of money,
or one-hnlf that, we are unaware of
the fact, and wo have no doubt but that
the good people of Worth county will
agree with tlijs statement of the case.

NOT IN PitI.ITICS,
There Is n fascination for the great
polltlcnl games of the time, among
men Just outside the arena, which Is
never experienced by the active par
ticipants in tho country’s political nf-
falrs. It Is an excitement, a pleasure
not unlike witnessing frnn some lofty
point »f bnntngc, the movements of
two great armies as they ndvance for
the Impending struggle, grapple At the
bayonets point and make a victory nml
A defeat.
Such arc the emotions and yet the
comparison does not hold good, for
every citizen has the right to feel that
he Is one of that, army, and that lie
can use one little weapon which will
deni one dentil shot. But priuitionlly
the voter may be considered out of
politics, In the iisitul acceptance of the
term, as lie is only n private in that
vast army, yet he scans the news of
the linttle ns eagerly ns docs the gen
eral who Is lending the polltlcnl army
on to victory—lie hopes.
This private, or man outside, loves
the news of the political arena III a
way which the leaders beset hy strong
er doubts and fears cnniiot do. The
fascination it. lias for him Is very un
like that which comes over the captain
or the general in the struggle, and yet
he rejoices as much in tho victory of
tits side, amt mourns ns sadly over de
feat.
Altogether the man out of politics,
as a general thing, mny consider him
self exceedingly fortunate anil
blessed.
WANT'S TO ISI.AIII/.E III,.
It Is queer to contemplate' Hint we
Americans are to the Mnlinmmednns,
Rudd lilsts, and other easterners of va-
rlegnted religious beliefs, as much
beat liens ns they . appear lo us, (yat
such Is the case.
Mr. Mulmmmnd Russell Webb, form
erly of New Y'nrk, but late of the Pltll-
lipitie Islands, having been appointed
minister under Cleveland to that
place, has been chosen by the Mohnm-
mednns, whose beliefs and code he has
heartily espoused, to come to tills
oofititry to convert the people here to
the doctrines of Islam ns laid down In
the Koran.
Mr. Webb wnsoheoan Ainerlcnn anil
a Presbyterian, but he claims to have
found a mure substantial religion in
the beliefs of Islam. Accordingly he
hns loft, the enstern wilds nml is now
on his way to New York, where he
will begin Ills missionary work, which
will be the conversion of Christians to
the religion of Mahomet and the
Koran, which he believes will ulti
mately be done.
Not more than tho above facts will
the first results of Ills teachings fur
nish food for speculation nml thought.
Of what is the above indicative and
what will be the probable outcome?
These are questions which thinking
Christians must ask themselves. Our
first Impressions are Hint Bitch an ef
fort will result In a gigantic fiasco,
but think again, have not stranger lie.
liefs gained strong following in this
land of religious freedom? It is time
to think wlint will bo the outcome and
what ought to be done.
