Farmers Urged
To Get Answers
Farmers participating in
the feed grain, wheat, or
cotton programs are urged
by F. W. Langston Jr„
Chairman of the Houston
County Agricultural Stabili
zation and Conservation
(ASC) Committee to get an
swers to any questions they
might have before they cer
tify acreaegc.
“Call, write, or come in
to the County ASCS Office.
Be sure you know exactly
what you're certifying be
fore you sign your name, he
said. Producers who are par
ticipating in the feed grain,
wheat, or cotton programs
must report exactly the a
cres in these crops and the
acres dievrted from these
crops and certify they have
complied with program re
gulations.
As soon as a producer cer
tifies, the County ASCS Of
fice begins processing the
data for payment which will
be made soon after July 1.
Payments are expected to be
completed before the end of
August.
“We want to prevent any
mistake in certification. It a
could cost a farmer all or *
some of his payment. Once
he has certified, he can’t
make adjustments in order
to be in compliance, lie has
to be in compliance when ho
certifies. If a spot - check
shows ho has made a mis
take, he is out of luck
“So if there’s a question
or doubt in a farmer’s mind
about exactly what is re
quired, he should ask our
ASCS Office as soon as pos
sible. It could save him mon
cy," the ASC Committee
Chairman said.
Ho urged farmers to cer
tify as soon as they know
'they are in compliance with
the programs, saying early
certification will help speed
payments.
Any farmer not sure of his
acreage may come to the of
fice and request measure
ment service.
