Unidentified
Body Found
Near Perry
By Maxine Thompson
The body of a young white
man who was apparently
murdered and dumped from
a car beside U.S. 341 near
Perry Tuesday still had not
been identified at press time
Wednesday.
Deputy J. W. Benford of
the Houston County Sheriff’s
Department said the initials
“C.L.C” were found
engraved inside the wedding
band worn by the man who
had been shot twice in the
head, and efforts are being
made from fingerprints and
dental work to make an
identification.
The body was reported to
Perry police at 6:4b a.m.
Tuesday. The body was
found about three-fourths of
a mile outside the city limits
on U.S. 341 north and the
sheriff’s department was
called. I,ater Joel Sullivan,
the district attorney’s in
vestigator, and state
Division of Investigation
agent Jim Hooks, entered
the investigation.
When the body was found it
was about nine feet from the
northbound edge of the high
way, lying on his left side,
Sullivan said. He was
described as having black
hair of medium length, about
five feet, ten inches in
height, and weighed about
180 pounds.
Dr. A. G. Hendrick of
Perry who examined the
body at Perry-Houston
County Hospital, estimated
the age of the young man at
between 19 and 22 years old.
He wore blue jeans frayed
at the edges where they had
been cut off above the knees
with scissors, a blue and
white striped shirt, sandals
and no belt.
All identification had been
removed from the body, and
$8 was found in his clothing.
No wallet was found, and no
watch, although a white ring
around his wrist indicated he
had been wearing one.
An autopsy showed he died
of gunshot wounds about 10
hours before the body was
found, and coroner Ben
Tiller said the case is listed
as murder.
The state crime lab is
assisting in efforts to identify
the man.
