Monday night was "Mrs Alice Gilbert Night” at the
New Perry Hotel, as many of her friends and
professional acquaintances gathered to pay the
longtime Perry librarian tribute. Mrs. Gilbert is shown

Perry's Civil Defense
Squad Taking Shape
The Houston County
Civil Defense now has six
rescue teams available,
with the addition in March
of two teams in Perry and
one in Centerville, ac
cording to county CD
director Ed Wagnon.
Perry CD director is
Captain Danny Redmond.
In the past few weeks the
county CD has been active
in training plus assisting
the Georgia State Patrol on
long Holiday weekends.
They assist the Patrol with
stranded motorists on 1-75
and other busy highways in
the county, to free the
Patrol tor more important
duties.
This past Memorial Day
weekend the county CD
assisted numerous
stranded motorists, and
with the July 4 holiday
approaching, another busy
few days is expected.
In the past few months
the CD has been readying
the newest van for service.
A total of 1,000 man-hours
has already been volun
teered. Another new van
was recently obtained
from the City of Warner
Robins. Both are now
available tor call
anywhere in the county.
Among the equipment is
a Hearsttool, better known
as the "jaws of life". At
this time only six of the
tools are in the state,
making Houston County's
CD unit very fortunate.

volunteers in Perry and in

Centerville are now being
accepted, said county
director Wagnon. Perry
had seven members to
complete first-aid training
this past weekend. They
will complete basic rescue
training next weekend and
will then be certified
members.

certification in Perry

Culpepper, Debbie Ganas,
Buddy Lane, Thomas
Exchange To Give Freedom
Shrine; Forfson To Speak
On Wednesday June 30 at
1:00 p.m. the Exchange
Club of Perry will present
Ben Fortson
accepting gifts from George Nunn of Perry (L),
representing the Perry Library Board; and from Jeff
Pierce of Warner Robins, representing the Houston
County Library Board.
Gilbert; Alice Gilbert; Judge Paul Armitage of the
Perry Library Board; Warren Phillips, executive
director of the county library system; and Jeff Pierce
of the County Library Board.
Sprouse, Jimmy Reese,
and Richard Gilbert.
Already certified are
Lieutenant Doug Baase
and Captain Danny
Redmond.
According to Lt. Baase,
these people will then
receive: extensive training
in natural nuclear disaster
preparations; coronary
pulmonary resuscitation
( C PR.); crash
management; and ex
tractions of injured per
sons from auto accidents.

thouse. Speaker for the
occasion will be Georgia
secretary of State Ben W.
Fortson. The ceremony
will take place at the
Courthouse in downtown
Perry.
Local Exchange Club
president Larry Mosteller
said the presentation of the
Freedom Shrine will be the
fourth presented locally.
The other three are at:
Perry High, Westfield, and
Tucker Elementary
School.
The Freedom Shrine is a
collection of 28 historic
American documents that
range from the Mayflower
Compact to the In
Weather watch training
will also be included.
Anyone interested in
joining the Civil Defense
should be 18 years or older,
a US. citizen, with "good
moral character" and be
willing to contribute 15
volunteer hours per month.
