off three straight wins, coming from behind to

Hornets Drop Opener To
Windsor 6-0 In Tournament
The Westfield Hornets
dropped their opening
game to Windsor
Academy 6-0 at the FPD
field. The Hornets out hit
the Windsor team 5-3 but
poor base running kept
them from scoring.
Windsor scored a run in
the first inning on a walk,
passed ball on a strike
out, and a beautifully
executed double steal.
The run came without the
benefit of a hit.
Westfield's starting
pitcher, Johnny Tucker,
settled down and retired 6
straight batters until the
roof caved In on him.
In the third inning
Windsor pushed across 3

Hornets had a man on
second and no outs. But
he was picked off, ending
the threat. More bad
news for Westfield in the
fourth as Tucker hit a
long drive for a double
with a man on first. But a
beautiful throw from
right field nailed the
runner at home plate.
In the final inning
Westfield had two on with
two outs, but the final
batter flied out ending the
game.

Westfield presented awards to the cheerleaders of the year last
Tuesday night at the annual awards banqiiet. Sharing the honors were
Kim Ragland (L) and Valerie Beckham (R). Shown with the winning
recipients is cheerleader sponsor Rose Phillips.
Hornet Award Winners
Westfield High School conducted its annual basketball awards banquet
last Tuesday night at the Hornets Nest. Boys awards were presented to
(L-R) Greg Gentry, most improved; Jon Pierce, Best defensive; Jimmy
Beeland, best offensive player; head coach Percy Hardy; Bert Brown,
Coaches trophy; Eddie Wilson, most valuable player; and Matt Jerles, B
team MVP.
