B.K.L.A.
The regular monthly
meeting of the B.K.L.A.
is scheduled for Monday
evening, December 3 at 7
p.m. at the Fire House.
New members are
welcome. This month's
meeting will cover
preparation for the
membership Christmas
party, to be held this
month.
EXPECTATION
We are about to begin
the season of Advent, a
time rich in history and
tradition. While the roots
of this period of an
ticipation may be traced
to ancient times, when
pagans awaited the
winter solstice, Advent in
today’s world holds a
richness of meaning and
spirituality that makes it
a special time of sweet
expectation. For
members of the Jewish
Faith, December brings
Chanukah, the Feast of
Lights. For Christians,
the season is one of
waiting in anticipation of
the celebration of the
Savior’s birth.
Although the T.V. may
be blasting the news that
no child can survive
without this or that toy,
and our days may be
crowded with shopping,
writing cards, and
baking, tradition offers
us an underlying thread
of peace and tranquility.
And the traditions con
nected with Advent are as
numerous and varied as
the people who observe
them. For example, one
family may put up their
unadorned tree at the
beginning of Advent —a
symbol of the dark and
empty world awaiting its’
Savior. Week by week,
lights and ornaments
may be added,
representing the gifts of
God and light sent
through the prophets. The
finished tree and
Christmas morning
represents the promised
birth of Jesus.
Why not share your
own rich traditions with
others —a Christmas gift
to our community here in
Bonaire? Write them
