Clerkley-Harden
Ethelyn Faye Clerkley
of Perry became the
bride of Flozell Harden,
111 of Dawson in a lovely
ceremony at the Oldfield
Baptist Church Saturday,
November 10, 1979. The
Rev. Julius C. Simmons
performed the ceremony
at three o’clock.
The bride is the
daughter of Mrs. Ethelyn
Clerkley of Perry and the
late Johnny Clerkley. The
groom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Flozell Harden,
Jr. of Dawson.
The couple spoke their
vows before the altar
decorated with baskets of
red carnations and white
gladioli. Baskets of fern
and candelabra holding
white and red tapers
completed the setting. A
program of wedding
music was provided by
musicians, Mrs.
Margaret Hill and James
Harris. They served as
accompanist for Mrs.
Mildred Green, Mr.
Dinkins, and Mr. M.
Sanders.
Robert Brooks, 111 of
Warner Robins stood with
the groom as best man.
Groomemen were Clif
ford Petty, Richard
Roberts, and the groom’s
brother, Timothy Har
den, all of Dawson; Alvin
Harris of Ft. Valley and
Jimmy Luster of Perry.
Gilbert-Smith Wed
Maria West Gilbert, of
Cordele, was married at 5
o’clock Oct. 20,1979 in the
First United Methodist
Church of Cordele to
David J. Smith, also of
Cordele. The Rev. Carter
S. Berkeley conducted
the beautiful double-ring
ceremony.
The bride entered
alone, lovely in a can
dlelight gown which
featured a yoke of lace
and net and a full-length
skirt and short train. The
long sleeves, skirt and
train were edged in lace
matching the yoke. The
bride carried a bouquet of
yellow carnations,
daisies and gypsophelia.
Mrs. Eddie Cannon
cousin of the bride,
served as matron of
honor. The bridesmaid
was Diane Smith, sister
of the groom. The at
tendants were dressed
alike in tomato bisque

Serving as ringbearers
were Jason Clerkly of
Perry and Kary
Ferguson of Dawson.
Patricia Turner of
Augusta served the bride
as maid of honor. The
bridesmaids were Zerita
F. Copeland of Warner
Robins, Cynthia Y.
Carter of Butler and
Stacy A. Hardin of
Dawson. The flower girls
were Teresa McGee of
Perry and Allison Smith
of Dawson.
The honor attendant
wore a red and white
print dress with a
matching cape and she
carried a bouquet of red
carnations. The
bridesmaids were attired
in red dresses with
matching capes and
carried bouquets of
peppermint carnations.
The flower girls wore
dresses to match those of
the other attendants.
The bride was escorted
to the altar and given in
marriage by her brother,
Johnnie L. Clerkley, Jr.
She chose a gown styled
on princess lines with
long fitted sleeves and
round neckline. It was
accented with scalloped
edged lace which also
trimmed her finger tip
veil. She carried a
bouquet of red and white
carnations and baby’s
floor-length gowns and
carried bouquets of peach
carnations and gyp
sophelia.
The groom and his best
man, Max Sewell, en
tered together down the
west aisle of the church.
At the conclusion of the
ceremony, Mrs. Jim
Stephens, of St. Simons
Island, sang the Lord’s
Prayer.
A reception, given by
the bride’s family, was
held in the fellowship hall
of the church.
The two-tiered wedding
cake was decorated with
roses of tomato bisque.
The bottom tier was
square while the heart
shaped upper tier held
the traditional miniature
bride and groom.
Mrs. R.R. Penny
presided over the wed
ding cake and punch was
served by Mrs. Bill
McWilliams. Other
breath.
The bride’s mother
chose an old rose dress
and an orchid corsage.
The groom’s mother wore
a blue dress and also
wore an orchid corsage.
Following the
ceremony the bride’s
mother entertained the
wedding guests at a
reception in the church
social hall. Diane Mc-
Crary of Ft. Valley cut
and served the four tiered
wedding cake which was
embossed with red and
white flowers and topped
with a pair of white
doves.
Caretha D, Clerkley
and Vivian E. Hardin
presided at the punch
bowl. Louise Fleming
assisted the guests in
registering in the bride’s
book.
When the couple left for
a wedding trip to Jekyll
Island and Atlanta the
bride was wearing a
dress of qiana knit. Mr.
and Mrs. Harden will
reside in Perry.
Mr. and Mrs. Harden
entertained at a dinner
party for their son and his
fiance in the church
fellowship hall following
the rehearsal.
Arrangements of mixed
flowers graced the tables
where the thirty guests
were seated.
refreshments included
hors d’oeuvres.
The bride’s book was
kept by Misses Krista
Cannon, of Dooly County,
and Mary Melissa Austin,
of Greenvilel, S.C.,
cousins of the bride.
The bride is the
daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Louis H. Gilbert
of Perry and Cordele and
the niece of Mrs. A.M.
Anderson of Perry and
Mrs. T.L. Bailey of
Cochran.

1020 of the National
Association of Retired
Federal Employees
continues to hold its
regular monthly meeting
on the second Wednesday
of the month at the
Warner Robins
Recreation Center on
Watson Blvd.
The next meeting of the
chapter will be held at 10
a.m. Wednesday
December 12 with
Christmas entertainment
and refreshments.
During the meeting, the
revised Constitution and
By-Laws will be reviewed
and discussed.
Following the meeting,
a social hour and refresh
ments will be enjoyed by
all.

91st Birthday
Mrs. Janie Weaver was honored on her 91st
birthday at a dinner at the home of her son, Ed
Weaver and Mrs. Weaver. Sunday. Mrs. Weaver,
a resident of the Church Home, was 91 on
November 29, 1979. Others present for the
celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weaver of
Woodbury, Mrs. Ida Weaver and George Weaver
of Forest Park.
