Rachel Wooden Wins Awards
Rachel C. Wooden, a
management analyst
assigned to the
Publications and Forms
Management Section, has
been selected as the Air
Force ■ Logistics Com
mand (AFLC) candidate
for Outstanding Air
Force Administration
Officer Award.
She has completed 25
years of service with the
2853rd Air Base Group at
Robins AFB. She began
as a GS-2 clerk-typist in
1955 in the Transportation
Division of the old Supply
directorate. Since then,
she has held positions as
clerk - stenographer,
administration specialist,
chief of the ad
ministrative branch in

Model Meeting Held By
Zeta Upsilon Sorority
Members and invited
guests were entertained
by President Sharon
Southerly at her home on
October 27th at the first
Model Meeting of Beta
Sigma Phi’s new sorority
year.
Because it was a
special meeting, all
business matters were
put aside, and the regular
membership of Zeta
Upsilon put on a short skit
to explain to the invited
guests the aims and
purposes of the sorority.
President Southerly read
aloud the Open Ritual
which all members recite
before each meeting.

Eugenia Simmons of
Macon presented a
program on watercolors.
Among the slides of many
New York and West Coast
water
colorists, were those of
Gena Oldham and Ms.
Simmons. Ms. Simmons’
hew works are ren
derings of fabrics, rib
bons and always in
cluding lace for which she
is so well known.
“I still love the old
Gingerbread houses”
said Ms. Simmons as she
demonstrated the
beginning of a picture.
<‘And I don’t work as
most watercolorists do,
from light to dark. I get
my known darks in early
to establish form and
depth.”
Ms. Simmons is a
graduate of Wesleyan
College in Macon and is a
teacher along with
showing in many
southeastern shows and
winning national ac
claim.
Members were
reminded of the
coming Christmas Bazaar
December 6-14 at the
Gallery. The December
meeting date was moved

management analyst.
In her nomination, she
was cited for
spearheading a project to
update the Master
Publications Library and
the Publication and
Forms Management
Section.
The citation read, in
part: “Her outstanding
leadership and
managerial ability, plus
her exemplary foresight
and significant con
tributions to the Air
Force administration
program have served to
enhance publications
management program
objectives.”
She also was praised
for her leadership in
forming systematic

the meeting by reading
aloud the Closing Ritual
and Mizpah of the
sorority.
Refreshments were
served and in the spirit of
Halloween, Mrs.
Southerly served apple
cider warm, Coca Cola,
Coffee and a wide choice
of donuts.
Everyone present felt
as though they had been
to a very special meeting
and many expressed
their feelings about how
good the work of Zeta
Upsilon is in the com
munity of Perry. We truly
are known for the good
deeds we do out of love
for our fellow man.

has planned ways to

ALC paperwork effective
with “the least ex
penditure of money and
manpower, yet
generating the lowest
possible volume of
paperwork.”
Rated an expert in
publications manage
ment, Mrs. Wooden
reviews publications to
determine whether they
need to be revised to meet
changing requirements.
She has filled in for the
publications branch and
section chiefs and,
“although faced with an
understaffed organ
ization,, the
citation read, “she
reduced the backlog of
publication drafts to zero
and still operated an
efficient organization.”

tributions to the Air
Force Administration
Program. Winners
receive a certificate
signed by the Air Force
Chief of Staff and an
engraved plaque.
Mrs. Wooden won her
award over active duty
officers through the
grade of captain and
civilian employees
through grade GS-12 or
equivalent at the other
centers.
She will compete in
worldwide competition.
Mrs. Wooden has
successfully combined
business and
homemaking. She lives
with her husband,
Howard, in Perry. A past
president of the Perry
Business Woman’s Club,
she is currently a director
of the club and a trustee
of the Perry Club Council.
As hobbies, she enjoys
tennis, horseback riding
and making crafts.
Did you vote? Gail Soles’ fourth grade at
Tucker Elementary School did. For two weeks
prior to the national election Mrs. Soles' class
campaigned, held conventions, filled out voter
registration cards and gave speeches. The
purpose of the unit was to elect a class president
as well as vote for the United States President.
The results of the November 4th class election
showed Kevin Beckham defeating Mark Panland
by a slight margin. All members of the class
