can support legislation so they’d
have control over what comes into
their county. The commissioners
should really take a closer look at
it. If it was coming into my
county, I’d try to prevent it.”
Ray said if he and other sludge
opponents are unable to prohibit
sludge being brought in from other
counties, he at least wants stricter
guidelines to control it.
Stafford said sludge has been
dumped in Houston County for the
past year. He said he’s unsure why
suddenly it’s a big issue.
Stafford said the meeting will
help answer questions for all con
cerned. He said, “We’re trying to
help by facilitating and getting the
players together.”
Hanner said he feels the com
missioners should be able to do
something about the sludge. “We
don’t need to be paying the county
commissioners if they don’t do any
thing.”

•The council voted unanimously
to purchase an auxiliary sub
mersible trash pump to be used in
the water and gas departments. The
pump will replace a broken ninc
ycar-old pump and will cost over I

•The council agreed to purchase a
bush hog rotary mower from
Walker Rhodes Tractor Company if
they agree to reduce their price by
$125 to meet the city’s lowest bid.
•The council passed an applica
tion for a manager change for malt
beverage beer from Marion A.

Rcvco Drug Store. They also
granted another manager name
change for beer and wine and intox
icating liquor by the drink from
William A. Westbrook to Robert
Pellissicr at the Perry Days Inn.
