Death notices
Kate Sikes Alexander
COLLINS - Kate Sikes Alexander, 73, died February 10 in a Reidsville
hospital. Bom in Tattnall County, she was a homemaker and was a
member of Collins Baptist Church, the Adult II Sunday School Class.
Survivors: husband, Dan Alexander of Collins; children, Gale Alexander
and Dana Kate McDaniel, all of Collins; sisters and brothers, Marie
Collins Howell of Perry and Myrtle Hagan of Collins, Tommy Sikes of
Cobbtown and Bob Sikes of Metter, and two grandchildren. Services:
February 12 in Collins Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Burial: the church
cemetery. The Rev?. Jerry Crawford and Ansley Jordan will officiate.
Cody Alan Everidge
PERRY - Cody Alan Everidge, the infant son of Bryan and Dianne
Little Everidge of 241 Langston Road, died February 9 in a local hospital.
Survivors: in addition to his parents, sisters and brothers, Samantha
Everidge, B.J. Everidge and Taylor Everidge, all of Perry; grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Little and Mr. and Mrs. Selmon B. Everidge, all
of Perry; and a great-grandmother, Evelyn Funderburke of Pineview.
Services: February 12 at 11 a.m. in Oaklawn Cemetery, Fort Valley. The
Revs. Bemon Blackburn and Robin Tedder will officiate. Watson-Hunt
Funeral Home in Perry has charge of arrangements.
Johnnie Alice Scott
WARNER ROBINS - Johnnie Alice Scott of Apt. 1-A, 120 Ignico
Drive, died February 9 in a local hospital. Bom in Houston County, she
was the daughter of the late Doc Mims. She was a member of Green
Grove Baptist Church in Elko. She was a former security guard for Pabst
Beer Cos. in Perry. Survivors: children, Shirley Carswell and Virginia
Williams, both of Warner Robins, and Juanita Collier of Atlanta; mother,
Ardenah Dennis of Warner Robins; sisters and brothers, Vera Kendrick,
Essie Fay Lane, Bernice Rawls and Annie Mae King, all of Grovania,
D.C. Mims of Perry and George Mims and Tommie Mims, both of
Hawkinsville; six grandchildren; arid two great-grandchildren. Services:
February 13 at 1 p.m. at Green Grove Baptist Church, Elko. Burial: the
church cemetery. The Rev. Floyd Clarington will officiate. Richardson
and Son Funeral Home in Warner Robins has charge of arrangements.
Willie Lee Duhart
PERRY - Willie Lee Duhart of 1316 Houston St. died February 10 at
her residence. Bom in Houston County, she was the daughter of the late
Will and Estella Holmes. She was a member of Galilee Primitive Baptist
Church. Survivors: children, John H. Duhart, Willie Lee Duhart II and
Lonnie Duhart, all of Perry; sister and brothers, Alice Holmes and J.C.
Holmes, both of Perry, and Sammie Holmes of Warner Robins; 10
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Services: February 13 at 3:30
p.m. at Galilee Primitive Baptist Church, Perry. Burial: Kings Chapel
Cemetery, Perry. Elder Walter Austin will officiate. Richardson Funeral
Home in Perry has charge of arrangements.
Students able to receive free screenings

All Houston County middle
school and high school students
will be screened for Sickle-Cell
Anemia this year, thanks to a
testing program offered by the
Sickle-Cell Anemia Foundation of
Georgia.
The service will be offered at no
charge to the county, and parents
will be informed of the specifics of
the testing by letters sent home
with the students. Assistant Super

morning service and each evening Monday, February 15 through
Wednesday, February 17 at 7:00 P.M. Jack Dowdy will be the
evangelist. He lives in Perry, GA. Jack has been a pastor/
evangelist for 33 years. He pastored 5 churches, and has conducted
over 400 revival meetings across America. The past 5 years has
been in full time evangelism. He is a graduate of Norman Baptist
College, Norman Park, GA. Each service will be filled with
wonderful music, dynamic preaching and special features.

vices to families if the tests show
the Sickle-Cell trait or the presence
of the disease.
“No students will be screened
without their parents’ permission,”
she said. “If the student is screened
and the test comes back positive,
however, the counseling services
offered to the parents will certainly
be beneficial.”
Implementation of the screening
program, approved by the Houston
County Board of Education Tues
day, is expected this spring.

Collecting labels
Suzanne Rowe, a fourth grade student at Tucker Elementary, drops 400
Campbell Soup labels in the bag held by fifth grader Issac Lester. The school
collected 1,250 labels on Community Service Day during School Counseling
Week recently. The labels have been sent to the Murphy-Harpst-Vashti
Centers for a van for children at the treatment center.
Robins officers wives
offer scholastic awards
The Robins AFB Officers Wives
Club present eight SI,OOO scholas
tic achievement awards this year to
graduating high school students
planning to attend a college or uni
versity.
Also, USPA and IRA, through
the officers wives club, is offering a
SI,OOO academic award based on
similar criteria and selected by the
same panel of judges.
The award is intended for educa
tional use and the award money is
mailed directly to the winners’
schools upon written verification of
registration. It is the responsibility
of the winners to present their veri
fication to the OWC treasurer be
fore any money will be paid.
The award money must be used
within one calendar year of the date
issued. Any student accepting a ser
vice academy appointment, a full
scholarship or an academic award
from another OWC will not be eli
gible for the Robins OWC award.
Each applicant must qualify in
one of the following categories:
•Bea dependent of any active mil
itary officer stationed at Robins
AFB.
•Bea dependent, who resides in
the local area, of any deceased U.S.
military officer on active duty at
Robins AFB at the time of death.
•Bea dependent, who resides in
the local area, of any U.S. military
officer on active duty serving an
unaccompanied tour whose last duty
station was Robins AFB.
•Bea dependent of any U.S. mili
tary officer on active duty who has
been transferred or retired from
Robins AFB in the last 12 months.
However, the students must have
remained in school in the Middle
Georgia area.
•Bea dependent, residing in the
area, of any associate member of
the Robins OWC.
Requirements for applicants are
as follows:
•Must be available for an inter
view by a panel of judges.
•Must be a graduate from high
school during the current academic
year.
•Must be in the upper 10 percent
of the senior class, or have an over
all 3.0 grade point average in a 4.0
system.
•Must have applied to a college
or university.
•Must have demonstrated scholar
ship, leadership and outstanding
performance.
The deadline to turn in applica
tions is March 13. Any eligible
student unable to obtain an applica
tion through their school's coun
selor's office should contact

closeout of this year’s awards pro
gram is March 20.

puppet ministry
to perform Sun.
Spring Revival will be held at
the Unadilla United Methodist
Church March 7-10 with services
at 11 a.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
nights.
One of South Georgia's most
outstanding preachers, Dr. William
R. Key of Perry, will be the visit
ing evangelist. Talented Don
Whatley of Reynolds will provide
the special music and lead the con
gregational singing.
Book Browsers
hold meeting at
New Perry Hotel
The Book Browsers Club met
Jan. 28 at the New Perry Hotel.
After a delicious lunch, the busi
ness portion of the meeting was
presided over by President Margaret
Stanley.
The program was presented by
Mrs. Ketus Cawthon who talked of
Olive Ann Bums' life as a writer
and of her last book, Leaving Cold
Sassv. Burns died in 1990 before
completing this book.
