Our view
Valentine's Day
The nice custom of observing February 14 as a special
day for lovers and romantics is thought to derive from the
Middle Ages in Europe.
There was a popular conception then that birds began to
mate on the 14th. Of course the birds didn't follow the cal
endar; but it was a colorful idea anyhow.
From Chaucer's time on, English writers describe the
14th as a special day for lovers. The name might have
come from that of a priest in Rome, a bishop in Terni or
another source. No one seems sure.
Whatever it's origin, the day is a heart-throb day for
millions of young people, who exchange cards or
presents, some of them secret. And it's another excuse for
merchants to profit in our sales promotion world.
The evening news
Evening news half hours on commercial networks have
steadily degenerated into a joke. None of these feature
shows really report much of the significant news.
Each news and feature show-that's what they are now;
many of the features aren't news-represent a calculated ef
fort to attract viewers.
Money, the pitch for largest viewing audience possible,
influences content. One can bet each night there will be a
feature on AIDS.
Another topic addressed almost every night is urban city
problems facing blacks. Another one is health feature.
One can expect a segment about homosexuals, about
women's personal problems, etc.
The number of commercials has been increased. So
called news is alloted only 15 minutes. With all the
viewer-oriented human-interest features jammed into that
15 minutes, one gets perhaps five minutes of news.
Obviously, much in the world is happening that can't be
crowded into five minutes. The commercial evening news
is today, therefore, features with headlines thrown in. The
American electorate is therefore poorly informed.
The answer, obviously, is a good newspaper or, sec
ondly public radio or TV. (Commercial radio news is
usually a one-minute shouting of three or four headlines).
Limit immigration
The United States population mix is today fast changing
because of massive immigration.
For 200 years a majority (90 percent until 1965) was
Italian, German, British and Irish ethnic stock (European).
That mixture had enough in common, in background and
heritage, to build the most powerful nation in the world.
However, immigration was never so large as it is today,
no was it ever predominantly from Third-world or have —
not nations.
It's nice utopian theory to comfort oneself by accepting
the claim that culture and background make no difference.
Culture does make a difference, and the difference has
consequences, as Peter Brimelow has proven.
Brimelow challenges those in Congress to prove this
major change in ethnic balance, this change to more and
more multi-culture, won't produce serious problems.
A glance around the world today shows it often does.
The United States has set the world an example in this re
gard, so far, but there have always been limits in the past.
Canada, Japan, most nations in Europe and Australia,
have in recent years limited immigration-to preserve their
nationhood-and birthright. We, on the other hand, have
watched the flood of immigrants steadily swell.
Our legal arrivals are now almost all from poor coun
tries, which discriminates against Americans of European
background. Also, illegals from south of the border sneak
in at the rate of over a million a year.
Left-wing liberals and well-meaning idealists can't
seem to admit this nation's culture, from Europe, with all
its faults, is what made this country great. They would risk
the nation's future on the basis of idealism.
They forget this nation's immigration has periodically
been halted, to allow for the melting process to work, nor
do they mention that the current flood is reducing the in
come levels of lower-class blacks.
The Federation for American Immigration Reform is
asking Congress to enact a temporary moratorium, after
which some sensible reform such as that seen in recent
years in European countries and Canada might be enacted.
It's expecting much of politicians to expect this, but the
future of the nation very likely depends on more sensible
immigration policies.

A discussion concerning the judgement of God
There is a God to Whom we all
are accountable. He is very patient,
loving, forgiving, and gracious. He
is also holy, just, and fair.
He rules this world, though un
seen, and will one day return visi
bly and physically to remake this
old sinful world into a sinless one.
Then there will no longer be hurt,
pain, tears, fear, and hatred.
Until then, He is in the process
of extending His kingdom quietly
and invisibly over the hearts of His
people. He is calling out a people
to be His own and to reflect His
character. These people are collec
tively called His Church.
The power by which He is adding
to His Church every day is called
saving grace. It involves conviction
of sin, a fresh view of His holiness
and love, and anew desire to
forsake the old life of self, with all
of its idols, for an intimate,
personal relationship with Him.
Those who are the subjects of
saving grace invite Jesus Christ
into their hearts to sit as Lord on
the throne of their lives. They are
assured of His presence bringing

eternal life and of being eternally in
His presence in heaven.
There is another kind of grace
that theologians call common
grace. This is God's gracious
dealings with His creation in
general, saved and unsaved. It does
not lead to personal salvation from
sin and hell, but still holds society
together and keeps us from being as
wicked as we would otherwise be.
One theologian describes its af
fect: (God) "without renewing the
heart, exercises such a moral influ
ence on man through His general or
special revelation, that sin is re
strained, order is maintained in so
cial life, and civil righteousness is
promoted."
Therefore, God gives us societal

institutions and civil government
for the common good of all, for the
promotion of freedom, justice, and
law and order.
When a people collectively drifts
from God's absolutes into rela
tivism, which is idolatry, they in
cur God's wrath. He patiently waits
and encourages a return to Him, but
after a while, He allows them to
drift even further in their sin.
Allowing a people to go their
own sinful, idolatrous way by re
moving His restraints from them is
part of His judgement on a nation.
Without God's common grace, our
wicked hearts would become unbri
dled in our passions, justifying our
actions all the while.
Romans chapter 1 gives us a de
scription of a people turning from
the knowledge of God and becom
ing more and more sinful, while
God removes His common grace
and "gives them over" to the sins
they so desperately pursue.

MLK street in
Perry: the
dream that died
Celebrating the life of probably
the greatest civil rights leader of
this century has been observed na
tion-wide. Martin Luther King Jr.
had a dream and he made his dream
the dream of many Americans. In
this spirit, the leaders of the City of
Perry decided to name a street in
honor of this great man.
Also following this spirit, our
city councilmen decided to let citi
zens have input into this decision.
Did we honor King and help his
dream become a reality by working
together as community and with
each other, man to woman, black to
white, adult to child, to make a
significant change in our city and
our relationship with our fellow
man?
No, we ended up arguing and now
the plans to re-name a Perry street
after King have been abandoned be
cause of the complaints and dissat
isfaction of a few who, conse
quently, think they represent every
one.
Sorry we couldn't get along and
come to an agreement Dr. King.
Maybe we'll try again next year.
From the people I've talked to
about this, the majority are more
upset that we won't have a street
named after King instead of being
upset about which street in particu
lar will be named after King.
Of course that’s why the project
was abandoned. Just call us Little
Warner Robins.
I don't understand how the deci
sion to re-name a street after one of
the most popular men in modem
history can turn into the biggest
jumbled up mess of nothing. Come
on people, let's get it together here.
Would King be proud of our ac
tions? I don't think so. Asa matter
of fact, this sitlidtion goes 1 against
his his teachings and his dream that
we all live together in harmony
regardless of race.
It's a real disappointment to most
of us who had faith that our city
could come together to honor a man
who deserves it
•In other news, I received a report
in the mail from the State of
Georgia Board of Pardons and
Paroles for 1992. Some of the in
formation in here may be of interest
to many of you so I thought that
since you probably didn’t receive
this info in the mail I'd pass some
of it along to you.
First and foremost the
Department of Justice's Bureau of
Justice Statistics reveals though a
chart comparing us with nine other
states that Georgia is the national
leader in the percent of adults who
are under some form of correctional
supervision. That means one in ev
ery 25 adults in this state is under
some type of correctional control.
Their report continues by saying
that by the year 2000 there will be
nine million people in the U.S.
who are either in prison or jail, or
on probation or parole. (And some
people don't think we need anew
jail!)

God's wrath is His holy aversion
to all that is evil. It is His constant,
condition of hatred toward every
thing that violates His moral char
acter.
Here, two types of people are the
subjects of God's wrath: those who
have substituted their own agendas
for God and those who will not
live in accordance with the Ten
Commandments and Sermon on the
Mount (God's Word).
They know about God but refuse
to honor Him as God or obey Him.
They receive His daily blessings of
life and opportunity and will not
recognize Him and thank Him.
When a person or a group of
people in a society go down that
road, God's judgement falls.
Here it is described in three parts
by repeated phrase, God gave them
over.
When a society gives itself over
to its particular idols, God lifts His
