The action of the city council
was wise, but the great blunder
made by that body in suspending
the payment of the interest in
order to investigate the validity
of the bonds after thiB question
had long since been settled by the
courts, cannot soon be forgotten,
neither will the city soon recover
from the injury done to its credit

A youug member of a certain
debating society has been having some
real experience in oratorical lines
of late. As a consequence of such
experience he possesses a raw and red
larynx and a nicely skinned set of
knuckles. The -knuckle signs were
made by frequent raps on a table close
by, when he was soaring away in his
intense enthusiasm. The hearers in
the room where the spirited young
debater was managing his subject to
suit his own fancy in a manner to
impress an appreciative Daniel Webster,
had their ear drums sorely tested.
After the fray’was over, all felt as

During the Association of the colored
folks which convened in Gainesville
last week, there was one very funny
little event that happened-that might
have resulted seriously and disastrously
to the performing party. ' Luckily,
however, it did not. A sort of a dudish
looking kind of a delegate was present
in a turnout of his own. On Sunday
morning during the convention he was
driving his sprightly litt nag along the
street near St. John's church at a
fairly rapid gait, possibly to attract
attention and admiration. He suc
ceeded in getting plenty attention, but
little admiration. In turning a sharp
corner, without reining in his animal,
he was perfectly chagrined on finding
himself in a heap about twenty feet
distant totally immersed in a bank of
dost, for it was a good day for dust.
The vehicle received damages to the
amount of one front wheel entirely
demolished and both shafts broken.
The horse jogged on a few yards and
stopped. He was not even seared. As
soon as he put on brakes, he simply
turned around and viewed pathetically
the scene of disaster. The young
brother was immediately surrounded
by a crowd, of solicitous friends and
warmly congratulated on coming out
of the difficulty in a live condition.
