SEMINARY ECHOES.
Some new Girls.—Prof. "Wallace’s
Good Work.—Other Notes.
Among - the new girls who have come
to ns since Christmas are Misses Eddie
and Annette Perkins, Millen, Ga.;
Emma Church, Graysville, Ga.; Ila
Chuff, Lithonia. Ga.; Lillie Johnsou,
Pine Bluff, Ark.: Onida Colbert, Five
Forks, Ga.; Chalcy Mettauer, Melrose,
Texas; Evline West, Fort Gaines, Ga.;
Shepard, Harmooy Grove, Ga. and
others whose names we do not recall
at present. Several new pupils will be
in next v\eek»
We are all looking forward to the
elocution recital of Miss Lewis on Fri
day night, the 28th with much pleasure.
She made a great reputation during
Chautauqua and will doubtless sustain
it upon this occasion.
Prof. Wallace is doing the best work
with the orchestra this year that he
has ever done. By the way, he says
that hereafter if patrons of the Sem
inary desire to attend the weekly re-
hersals, on Thursday afternoons, he
will be glad to see them.
A bulletin board has been placed in
the front hall of the school building
and every morning an epitome of the
news is w**itten thereon. Attention is
there brought to events which are tak
ing place in the world and in the Libra
ry are found the newspapers with the
articles referred to.
The senior class organized a few days
since by electing Miss Ida Chandler of
Waynesboro, as president; Miss Belle
Johnson, V> interville, vice-president;
Miss Mittie Porter, Col unbus, secretary,
and Miss Sallie M. Cook of Covington,
as treasurer. They will now go to
work to leave something on the campus
*or in the buildings to show future gen
erations that they were once here. It
will doubtless be something handsome,
for this class does not do things by
halves.
Again we ask, why not begin the
publication of the Signal? It fills a
void in our college life.
We all miss Mr. Townsend, who is
preaching with greit power and success
in Montgomery. He and his good wife
have added much to our home life this
year, and we hope soon to see him
back in Gainesville.
Exposure to Disease.
This does not necessarily mean the
contraction of disease provided the
system is in a vigorous condition, with
the blood pure and all. the organs in
healthy action. When in such a con
dition contagion is readily resisted and
the disease germs can find no room for
lodgment. Hood’s {Sarsaparilla is the
best medicine to build up the system
because it makes pure, rich blood, and
pure blood is the basis of good health
In cold weather it is especially neces
sary to keep up the health tone because
the body is subject to greater exposure
and more liable %o disease. Hood’s
Sarsaparilla is the safeguard of health.
Wants More Land,
Dr. E. E. Dixon, Chairman of the
Board of County Commissioners, is in
favor of buying more land for the
pauper farm so that those who apply
for help may be given a home there
and made to do such work as they are
able to do, thereby making the home
self sustaining. He believes that this
would prove much more satisfactory
than allowing the poor to rent homes
and call on the county for help that
they may pay rents. Dr. Dixon made
his report to the County Commissioners
Tuesday, and that body will perhaps
make some recommendations regarding
it.
What stops Neuralgia? Dr. Miles* Pain Pills.
There was a slight change in the
schedule of the Southern railway last
Sunday. The time of arrival of the

trains was changed slightly.

About Advertising.
The year 1898 promises to be a good
one to the people generally, and busi
ness will no doubt be good. The mer
chant who advertises freely will get
the larger part of the business, as the
time has come when the people trade
with those who appreciate their pat-
rougge enough to ask for it. The
Cracker goes into the homds of the
people Gainesville business men want
to reach, therefore it is a valuable ad
vertising medium. If you are not now
represented in its columns put in an
advertisement at once.
Dig down to the cause of your sick
ness, if you want to get well and stay
well. Most likely it’s indigestion.
The irritating poisons of fermenting,
putrid food, left in the stomach by in
digestion, cause headache, neuralgia,
nervousness, dizziness, stomachache,
nausea, irritability, and all the other
well-known symptoms of indigestion.
They also cause many pains and dis
orders which are often laid to other
causes and hence are not easily cured.
But as soon as the poisons are removed
all these symptoms and disorders dis
appear, because there is nothing left to
cause them. Nothing succeeds in this
line like Shaker Digestive Cordial, be
cause it prevents the undigested food
from fermenting in the stomach and
helps the stomach to digest its food.
