IT IS DYING HARD
Below we present', side by side, two editorials from the Gaines
ville Eagle, which contradict each other. One was written two years
ago, the other was penned this week. We leave it to thereader, with
a full knowledge of the the situation, to decide which is true and
which ib not true.
The old bird, whose proud plumage was once its chief delight,
stands with drooping jaw and withering lips, gazing upon the few
straggling feathers left and as each breath becomes more labored in its
struggles with the inevitable, bows its head in supplication that the

The good price at which cotton
sold last fall should not run the
| farmers wild and cause them to
plant an all-cotton crop. It is
well for them to always raise home
supplies in abundance and have
their cotton as a surplus crop.
Much distress has been caused
the farmers of the south during
the past few years by forsaking
their supply crops and planting
their farms wholly m cotton,
thereby glutting the markets and
causing the price to go to four and
five cents.
The farmers do not need to be
told that this all-cotton policy is
suicidal, but it is well enough for
them to bear in mind the experi
ence of the past few years so that
they may hedge against it in the
future.
