Miss Marianne Hendersoy in Wreck*
Miss Marianne Henderson, who left
the city Monday to visit relatives at
Columbus, was on the Southern railway
train which was wrecked at Ellerslie,
near Columbus, Monday night at 8:30
o’clock. She was badly shaken uo and
bruised but her injuries are not seri
ous. Dr. J. W. Oslin, her grandfather,
states that he has not yet heard the ex
tent of her injuries, but hopes that she
will be all right again soon.

uty marshalls, who have/ a
volume of business to transact,
need and should have offices for
this purpose.
No portion of the South has the
mineral interests which are to be
found in this Piedmont belt, sit-
u a ted in the centra of which is
Gainesville with its splendid rail
road facilities, a nd being the dis
tributing point for the entire
country back of.it to the North
Carolina line. A government as-
sayer is needed at this point arid
should have an office in a govern
ment building where the ores of
the mines of this entire belt could
be treated at all times, thus saving
mueb to the large interests
throughout this section.
And there are other good reasons
why a government building Bhbuld
be erected here, and we hope Con
gressman Tate can secure the ap
propriation. * "

Manchester a Bankrupt.
London, Jan. 14.—The bank
ruptcy of the Duke of Manchester,
who recently married a rich Amer
ican wife, was again aired in the
courts today. An appeal was
lodged against the plea of infan
cy in respect to a claim of £859
for jewelry. The appellants sub
mitted that in view of the duke’s
position jewelry was necessary
even though an “infant.” The
hearing was adjourned to see if the
duke, on bis return from America,
desires to maintain the plea of

Miss Martha Maddox, of Pendergrass,
who has been bed-ridden nearly all ths
time for the last thirty years with in
digestion and a complication of other
diseases, was in the city Monday. She
attributes her recovery to taking the
home treatment from J. D. Jennings,
the magnetic healer, whom she had
never seen until she came here. She
has improved wonderfully, as she could
hot eat any solid food when she began
treatment; but now she can eat any
diet without the least harmful or de
pressing effects. .
