Sontnern Railway Increasing Facilities for
Handling Freight Here...
The Southern railroad is to largely
increase its facilities for hauling freight-
at Gainesville. It is to pnt in and ex
tend several sidetracks. On the west
side of the road. i. e. the side next to
town, it is going to rnn a sidetrack
from the foot of Bradford street out
towards. Mealor’s foundry. On the
east side it will put in a sidetrack in
tersecting with the main line near the
water tank and running towards the
brick yards of Wheeler & Son, and Mrs.
Pfeifer.^ Another sidetraek will.be pnt
in on the east side of the road intersect
ing with the mam line at or near the
road crossing at the sonth end of the
freight depot; still another track will
be pnt in on the east side of the road
to ran to the north end of the Vesta
mill. It already has a track down near
the crossing of the two roads, adjoin
ing the Vesta mill site.
The city * council has had in mind
sometime the opening of South Brad
ford street across the railroad, and
the railway officials have pledged them
selves to make the necessary improve
ments there just as soon as they can
get to it. It is not known, what the
city officials will now do about the
Bradford street crossing, but it is cer
tain that they will not accept any
plans which are not in keeping with
their idea of public safety and con- <
venience at that point.
