In the noble list of inventions
and accomplishments, no thought
ful student of the world’s progress
can deny to the bicycle a foremost
place, especially, when considered
in its relation to man as a social
and amiable being. With his
wheel a person can go without a
cent of expenditure ten, twenty or
even thirty miles m a few hours*
to visit a friend or relative or to
be present at a social gathering or
a family reunion. With his feet
man is outclassed by all the larger
animals in locomtion, but mount-
on. his wheel he out-speeds the
horse and rivals the dog. By it
the circumference of his activities/
his industry and his fellowship, is
vastly enlarged. Cheaply and
swiftly, and with no effort save
that Of healthy exercise, he goes
and comes at will. It multiplies
the. capacity of his hands. It
stimulates his brain, and feeds his
affections with , amiable compan
ionship otherwise denied him. Is
it a wonder that those who are us
ing the wheel wisely, who are
availing themselves of its assist
ance and realize the increase of
health, the mental stimulant and
the enlarged and happier life it
has brought to them are .enthusi
astic in its praise? The sensation
which its introduction caused is
past, but its popularity is today
greater than ever before and rap
idly increasing.

Cuba’s Crucifixion.
Havana, April 6.—The Discus-
ion has been suppressed by order
of Gen. Wood and it3 offices have
been closed and sealed. This ac
tion was due to the publication in
the Discusion yesterday of an iK
lustration having the title of “The
Cuban Calvary,” representing the
Cuban public personified in a Cu
ban soldier being crucified between
two thieves, Gen. Wood being rep
resented as one theif and President
McKinley as the other, both be
ing labeled with their names. Sen
ator Platt was represented as a
Roman soldier giving vinegar and
gall in the form of the Platt
amendment, while Public Opin
ion, as Mary Magdalen, was weep
ing at the foot of the cross. Be
low was the following inscription :
“Destiny will not reserve tor us
a glorious resurrection.”
The picture caused much unfav
orable comment yesterday, from
the standpoint of decency. The
editor of the paper, Senor Corana-

The Eminent Kidney
and Bladder Specialist,
Should tTse Improved Methods.
Proper preparation and cultivation
of soil are impossible with the anti
quated tools used by our grandfathers.
Improved plows, rollers, harrows, plant
ers, weeders and cultivators are abso
lute essentials of success in these days.
The mair who persists in the use of old
time tools and methods will soon be left
behind in the race by his more progres
sive neighbor. While he finds the old-
fashioned tools unfitted for proper pul
verizing of his soil, leaving many clods
unbroken, or to be broken one at a time,
his neighbor with improved implements
plows the land to the necessary depth,
and then crushes the clods on a strip 7
or 8 feet wide each trip across the field.
With the same implement that fines
the surface the weeds may be killed
without allowing one to reach a height
of even 1 inch.
The old rule of 1 acre a day will not
do for these progressive times. Ten
times that much can be done by a many
toothed instrument made for the pur
pose.—State Agricultural Department.

The Discoverer of Swamp-Root at Work In
His Latoratory.
There is a disease prevailing in this
country most dangerous because so decep
tive. Many sudden deaths are caused by
it—heart disease, pneumonia, heart failure
or apoplexy are often the result of kidney
disease. If kidney trouble is allowed to ad
vance the kidney-poisoned blood will attack
the vital organs, or the kidneys themselves
break down and warfe away cell by cell.
Then the richness ofthe blood—the albumen
—leaks out and the sufferer has Bright’s
Disease, the worst form of kidney trouble.
Dr. Kilmer’s Swamp-Root the new dis
covery is the true specific for kidney, bladder
and urinary troubles. It has cured thousands
