The coal chutes are also nearing com
pletion, and the self-feeding appliances
for the boilers are already in. The
boilers are also equipped with new pat-

The work on the spring is practical
ly Completed the cement and wood
work being finished. However, con
siderable grading will be done around
it and the whole place will be filled in
and leveled up. The foundation for
the store and offices is already in and
the brickwork will begin soon. These
buildings wili b£ imposing structures
and will be situated in what was for
merly the old ravine above, the hotel.
Considerable grading will fie done near
these* buildings and at the northeast
end of the mill building. A street will
be run from the public road on in front
of the store and across ^be.dam qf the
lake to the railroad.
The construction of cottages for the
mill bosses continues on top of the^hill
just across from Mr. Montgomery’s
residence. In all, one . hundred more
cottages will he erected and be ready
for Use when the mill is equipped to its
full capacity. Sometime next year the
county will build a bridge across the
branch below tbe old hotel, which, will
connect the town.
• The water from the mineral spring
will be pumped to the reservoir on top
of'the hill and will he used for drink
ing purposes at the mill and, later on,
in the cottages. The water frotd the
lake will be used for mill and fire pur
poses exclusively.

There was really a small fire at the
Gainesville iron works,’which was ex
tinguished by the appiieation of a buck
et of water. The alarm' was turned in
and the fire laddies, [ seeing the great
light shining, started to put out the
moon. This was certainly commenda
ble, although quite an undertaking.

h County Board of Education Meets.
The count# board of education met
last Wednesday in regular session. The
board re-adopted Frye’s complete geog
raphy and Cooper’s history, “Our Coun
try.”
A petition from the people near Oco
nee Mills was presented, wherein the
citizens of that community proposed to
deed* land to the county for school pur
poses and erect the building without
any cost to the county. This was
agreed to by the board, and a commit
tee was appointed to ~aid in the selec-

Mr. Tom Bell Hart.
Mr. Thomas M. Bell, clerk of Hall
superior court, engaged in a scuffle a
few days ago with a friend. By some
mischance one of Mr; Bell’s right ribs
was broken. The accident caused se
vere paiu, hut is not very serious, and
he is up and attending to business.

The united brotherhood of carpenters’
and joiners’ which was recently
organized, now has 89 members. The
following officers were installed at
the last regular meeting f J, H. Shir
ley, president; W. N. Jones, vice pres
ident ; C. P. Harris, financial secretary ;
Floid Bliss recording secretary;
F. M. Ledford, treasurer ; Henry Mor
ris, conductor; John Winters, inner
guard. The order is in a flourishing
condition and it is the desire of the
membership to get every carpenter and
joiner in Gainesville into the* ranks at
an early date.-
