At the time of the regular inspection
it will not be possible to determine tin
extent of these pests in the nurseries,
as the roots will not then be exposec
and only a few trees in each block can
be pulied up for examination. Then,
after all, we must depend largely upon
the honesty and integrity of the nur
seryman for the enforcement of our in
structions. In this connectioa it shoulc
be stated that we haye had the hearty
co-operation of the Georgia nurserymen
in our work and it is largely due to
them that the law has been Successfully
executed.
In addition to fruit trees the follow*
ing, if offered for sale, are classed al
nursery stock and are subject to th«
regulations governing the inspection
and transportation of the same: Straw
berry plants, vines, ornamental treet
and shrubs, and greenhouse plants (not
including cat-flowers).
When it is desired to use this oertifl*
oate on stock other than that grown by
the nurseryman to whom it was issued,
It may be so used provided such stock is
already covered by our state certificate
or the official tag of the board issued to
nurserymen outside of the state.
The regular inspection certificate
must not be used by dealers in nursery
stock who are not themselves growers.
Buying and re-selling plants is certain
ly a legitimate business and we have
made provision whereby dealers may
readily comply with the law. The
.dealer mast furnish this office with the
names of all the nurserymen from whom
he proposes to purchase stock, and if our
records show that all of them have met
with thg requirements of the board, a
certificate to that effect will be granted.
Also wherever practicable the stock
handled by dealers will be re-inspected.
AH nursery stock offered for trans
portation must be plainly labeled with
the official inspection certificate in ac
cordance with the foHowing role of the

An incident in Cleveland. O., a
day or two ago, is fairly illustra
tive of the inscrutability of wo-
tOian’s character. Miss Agnes
Smith applied to the court for a
writ to compel J. W. Cobb to cease
annoying her by calling on her and
asking her hand in marriage; Miss
Smith alleged 111 her complaint
that Cobb followed her everywhere
and would give her no pease. The
writ was issued. But no sopner
had Cobb been enjoined than Miss
Smith began to regard him with
favor, and finally married him
while the order of the court was
yet in force.* #

Any nurseryman upon application to
this office, with dimensions of his fumi
gating house, will be furnished the
formula and full instructions for fumi
gating. When desired,’if necessary, we
will personally superintend the begin
ning of the work,
The formula that we have a&ipited is
1 ounce of potassium cyanide (98 99 per
cent), 11-4 ounces of commercial sul
phuric acid, 3 ounces of water to every
100 cubic feet of space in the room;
time, of exposure 50 minutes. Our ex
periments have shown that the time
may be extended to one hour without
danger of injury to dormant trees.
We wish to give notice here that all
fumigating houses should be placed in
order for approval at the time of nursery
inspection.
So far as possible the nurseries will be
taken np systematically with respect to
location, in order to avoid traveling over
the same ground more than once. It is
hoped that demands for early inspec
tions will not materially interfere with
this plan; but when for any good
reason a certificate is desired in ad
vance of our schedule we will arrange
for an earlier inspection.
W. M. Scott, State Entomologist.
