Some Talking Points About Georgia’s Agriculture
In 1910 Georgia had 2,431,000 hogs, which when compared with the census
figures cf 1900, show an increase of about 600,000 head. Georgia
among the states in hog production. !

According to figures of the Bureau of Animal Industry of ihe United Siates j
Department of Agriculture, Georgia is first of ail the states having pig clubs,

by the use of the combination of corn, velvet beans and peanuts, the bogs

Georgia’s corn lias been nearly doubled in quantity and value since
1009. During this period, the Boy’s Corn clubs have been developed and
the county demonstration agents have been doing their educational work.

The greatest yield of corn from one acre in Georgia is 214 bushels mada
by a Corn Club member.

Georgia is second in production of peaches and by reason of the quality
and earliness, the selling price is high and profits are large.
Georgia has 41,000 rural people—men, women and children—who are or
ganized into clubs and otherwise, to do some definite demonstration w-ork
in improving farm conditions under the direction of the extension division
of the Georgia State College of Agriculture.
The velvet bean has come into great commercial importance, especially
in south Georgia where it is extensively grown with corn. It increases llve-vf
stock possibilities, and when grain and pod are ground together Is offered
as a valuable feed upon the market.
During recent months several public sales of purebred livestock have
been made in Georgia. In this Way and through private purchases, some of
the best breeding stock out of the most famous strains of beef and dairy
cattle In the country have been obtained by Georgia farmers.
