I Am
wStSlcWTi
I Am a mother’s Son, I am the pride of a family and a part of a
home. I love my life as you love yhurs. I am a youth in
years and experience of life, yet I am a gambler, betting the
highest ftakes that man can wager—my life. If I win you win,
if I lose I have lost all; the loss i3 mine; not yours, and there is a
grieved mother, a saddened family and a broken home to which I
can never return. I ask only for the Godspead and support of my
nation in return for laying upon the alter mv all. For ir,y bravery
and blood will you furnish bullets and bread? Will you pawn
vour shekels where I pawn myself ? Will you bet your gold whi'e
I bet my blood? Will you hazard your wealth where I risk my
life? I urn the flower of a nation’s manhood, the glory of a noble
race and a tithe to the monsner war.

A man may follow the flag by
sticking it on the front end of
his automobile, but it takes more
than that to make him a patriot.
The Council at its Monday
night’s meeting instructed the
Marshall to enforce the law
against auto speeding and cases
will be mads against those run
ning ears faster than 15 miles
per hour on the streets,
There is only one objection to
the proposed law changing the
age of consent from 10 to 15
years. It should not be less
than 18, and_ still belt r 21.
Georgia is the only state in the
union that makes the age of con
sent 10.
The present legislature should
provide for the admittance of
women to the State University.
There is no soun'd argument
againgt allowing women the
same educational advantages as
men and one institution can be
managed more economically than
two. ' -
Bowden College has been of
fered to the State for a Normal
and Industrial School similar to
the on* at Milledgeville. We
commend this idea and hope it
will not be limited to one sex.
We know no argument against
co-education.

The name was evidently given to the

life existed in it. But Borne low forms
of life are found in the water, and
many small animals and thirds live
near the shores. The great tragedy

On Monday, May 28, 1917, the
death angei visited the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lee and called
their daughter, Atha Mae, to
rest on the bosom of our Heaven
ly Father.
Atha Mae vyas born in October.
1897, and was the oldest child of
Mr. and Mrs. J'm Lee.
She has only paid the penalty
we all must pay, and we must
submit to the will of God, know
ing that He doethall things well.
Nd human tongue can tell how
Atha suffered for one month and
one day, and human hands did
all that was in their power to do
for her. She bore her suffering
without a murmer or complaint,
Home with her was sweet and
pleasant^ but without her is sad
and deso.ate.
She was a good, kind-hearted
girl and always tried to do the
right tiling and is much missed
in her community and especially
in the home. She was indeed a
loving daughter and sister. To
know her was to love her. She
has left a father, mother, six
sisters, two brothers and a host
of relatives and friends lo mourn
her death.
May therichest of God’s bless-
