Winona Entertainers
No Lyceum oourse is entirely
complete without at least one
good, strong, strictly first-class
number, and the Piedmont Lyce
um Association, through which
our series of attractions has been
secured, has included the Winona
Ent-rtainers in our circuit for
that purpose—to give a program
of wholly an entet tabling nature.
There will be solos and duets,
readings and character sketches
and ensemble numbers, inclu
ding the violin. Variety a plenty
for all, yet all of that character
which brings not a blush to the
cheek, hut rather inspiration to
the soul. -Just the kind of enter
tainment we need during the
present serious hours of sacrifice
and responsibility. And, too,
there will be included patriotic
songs and stories to remind us
that we are living under the
greatest flag of the world.
Died in Texas.
Mrs. Carl Hoffman (nee Miss
,4nnie Baggett) received the sad
information by wire Thursday
that her husband, Mr. Carl Hoff
man, had died of fever at Beau
mont, Texas, on the 13th.
Mfs. Hoffman was in receipt
of a letter from him a few days
previous stating that he would
join her soon, and didn’t know
he was sick till she received the
shocking information that he
was dead.

Send Them The Sentinel
Nothing would be appreciated
more by our soldier boys than the
Sentinel every week and if we
were able to do so we would
gladly send every Douglas county
boy the paper free. Not being
being able to do this, we are
glad to make this proposition:
We will send the paper to them
at the old price of $1.00 per year
the same rate we give C'.nfede
rate veterans.
If you have a son or any other
relative in the aymy, you could
not give him so much pleasute
in any other way as the home
paper w ould give hiqi.

Douglas Superior Court opened
Monday with Judge Bartlett
presiding and Solicitor General
I. R. Hutcheson looking after
he state’s interests.
The grand jury was organized
>y electing Prof. J. T. Reese
oreman, and J. F. Long, cleric
Judge Bartlett delivered an
ible charge to the grand jurp
rnd the civil docket was takea
up with prospects of completing
the work a-3 calendered before
;he end of the week.
Next week the criminal calen-
iar will be taken up and the
locket will not be heavy, as
most of the cases are of minor
importance and but little time
will be consumed in disposing of
them.
In this connection we will state
that in our judgment there is
entirely too much time and the
ppope’s money spent in trivial
cases.
In a county thesizeof Douglas
the entire docket, both civil and'
criminal, ought to be-disposed of
in one week or less.
Tie 'e are unimportant cases o a
the calendar fo: this term that
have been on every calendar for
i the past five years and have
la'ready cost the county many
.times the amoi nt invested. This
sh mid be remedied.
