Power of The Press
That Unc ! e Sam realizes the
power of the press in molding
•sentiment throughout the nation
is evidenced by-the plans for the
campaign in connection with the i
sale of the second issue of Liber- j
ty Bonds.
These plans contemplate the
utmost publicity through the
newspapers oi the ocuntry, both
the dailies and weeklies, as well
the magazines and other
periodicals, without which it
would be impossible to market
an issue of bonds in the remark
able short time required for
the first issue of $2,000,000.
No finer demonstration of the
power of the press has ever been
given in this or any other coun
try than the successful consum
mation of the government’s war
plans. It is generally conceded
that the newspapers made pos
sible the enactment of the select
ive service law. Without their
continued support of the law, its
operation after enactment might
have broken down, or at least
would have been greatly delayed.
Nothing but newspaper publicity
could have sold $2,000,000,000
worth of Liberty Bonds in so
short a time as the government
required in the first campaign.
And when the second issue of
bonds are placed upon the mar
ket, the government;'will turn
again to the newspapers^for their
support.
WILL BE REPAID FOR THEIR
WORK
Women everywhere suffer from
kidney trouble—backache, rheumatic
pains, swollen and tender muscles,
stiff joints. Mrs. C. J. Ellis, 605 8th
Ave., Sioux Fails, S. D., writes: “I
feel sure if anyone bothered as I was
will cfiAe Foley Kiduey [Pills a trial
they will be repaid forjtbeir work.”
