Last week, a Dougins County man
rode fifteen miles and bnck to attend
an important meeting, and found
after arriving here the meeting was
not till the following day. Cost him
Jhcluding loss of time not less than
y$5.00. The date of said meeting
was published in the Sentinel but he
was not a subscriber. Lost enough
on that one occasion to pay for the
Sentinel five years. It’s not 30
much a question wheths • you can u-
fford to take the paper us whether you
can afford to do without it-
DOUGLAS COUNTY FULMERS
The most important business in
Douglas County, is farming and today
perhaps the most critical period in
the history of this great industry.
It is easy to give advice and every
one including the 2 by 4 politician iis
rlways handing that commodity out
freely to the'farmer-
Last year, the farmer did his best
and tried to grow crops—it wa a an
expensive effort and we all know he
made a signal failure. Many this
year are hardly able financially to
grow a crop under favorable condit
ions, and we know that with the late
ness of the season and the boll wee
vil menace that this season is going
to be a most critical one.
The farmer may need advice if It
Id the right sort he should have it
Bishop Candler’s article on educat
ion in last Stinday’s Journal is one of
the greatest contributions we have
seen fop fi long time. He justly
criticises the leading educational
institutions for drifting from cultural
education to the so caked practical.
The, tenderecy in this diriction is
alarming and if it keeps going on,
in a few more year s we will not have
Khools but work shops.

from competint sources, he is also

it too.
There is no discounting the fact
that the bool-weevil must be fought
and fought sucessessfully if we get
a cotton crop this year. - The only
way to fight thi s pest according to
the best information obtainable is to
destroy them- This means extra
work for the farmer but we beleive
hei a willing to work a s he has never
worked before if he can get any assu
ranceof success.
Government experts say that the
only successful way to exterminats
the weevil la to poison them with
calcium arsenate end there is ar
ample suply purchased by the govern
ment to be purchased at cost, but the
farmers need somebody to take the
matter in hand and see that they can
get it- Jt. Is ieatimated that, -at a
coat of from $2.00 to-$&.00 per acTe
the evil effects of the pest can be
: overcome-
In many counties we find the bank s
buying calcuim arsenate and -supply
