HOW TO GET BACK
THE “JOY OF LIFE”
L IFE isn’t worth living if you’re so
weak and run down you can hardly
drag yourself around.
If the rich red blood, full of health
and vigor, were pumping through your
veins, the joy of life would come back
soon enough! Gude’s Pepto-Mangan
has worked this magic for thousands—
it will do the same for you. Take
it for a short time and see how your
health and strength improve. Your
druggist has it—liquid or tablets, as
you prefer. »

f vitamines not a cure-all.
! The present popular tendency to ex
|tol vitamines as a cure-all may be
drawing to a close. The United States
Public Health Service reports that ef
forts during the year to discover the
unidentified food substance whose ah
sence from the diet causes pellagra
have excluded two of the three known
vitamines. The search for the missing
element is being steadily narrowed.
It is early perhaps to think of a
program of Jaws needed to be enacted
by our new legislature, but we dt
wish to call the attention of our law
makers to the necessity of protecting
our girls by passing a marriage bill,
and the entire country in good whole’
some public health legislation.
All people should avoid taking pat-
ent medicines or advertised remedies.'
If you are sick, consult your family \
physician.
WHAT THE PEOPLE MUST KNOW.
They mus| know the widespread
prevalence of the venereal diseases;
the far-reaching havoc wrought by
them.
That they are infectious and com
municable.
That gonorrhoea and syphilis often
remain ifi a latent state (or years after
a supposed cure.
That the cessation of the discharge
does not mea na cure of gonorrhoea
nor does the disappearance of visible
symptoms mean the cure of syphilis.
They must know that they are fre
quently carried into the home and
family after a supposed cure.
That in the female gonorrhoea has
such a wide range of manifestations
that there may be no indications what-
ever of disease, or there may be any
and every symptom of female trouble
up to the most severe and critical ill
ness.
That a large part of so-called female
trouble of married women is due to
gonorrheal infection from the old lat
ent cases in their husbands.
That thousands of good women dls
or undergo serious mutilating opera*
tions from the same cause.
That most of the persons who are
blind from infancy are victims of gon
orrheal infection of the parents.
They must know that ail syphilitics
are not horrible looking specimens
with sores and ulcers; that only for
a ehort period are there ckin erup
tions, and that superficial sores and
ulcers appear in but few cases; that
most syphilitics can mingle in any
crowd unnoticed; that there are thou
sands of these.
They must know that a large percen
tage of the inmates of the insane asy- j
Jums are there because of syphilis. j
That many diseased, defective and
deformed children pay the penalty for j
their parents’ infections.
They must know that nature seldom
effects a cure of these diseases, but
that they can be cured by thorough j
and persistent treatment.
That if not cured- the penalty is’
certain and the infection will most
likely be communicated to many others. 1
That every really cured case breaks |
a link in this chain of infection and
lessens the danger to all.
That ninety-five per cent of all pros
titutes have one or both of these dis
eases.
That the female prostitute is the
pource of infection; the male prosti
tute is the carrier of the diseases.
That the Georgia State Board of
Health furnishes pamphlets on these
diseases free for the asking.
Gipsies in History.
The original gipsies appeared In
Surope at about the beginning of the
Sixteenth century. It is probable that
hey were of Hindu origin and were
iither exiled because of their religious
teliefs or ran away from the persecu
tion of Tamerlane, or Timur, the great
Tartar conqueror who invaded * India,
is their origin was a mystery to Eu
rope when they appeared on Its East-
»m plains, some German savant de-
:reed that they were Egyptians. The
popular corruption of the word
"Egyptian” is the name by which they
.re now known th^ -Id over.
