Dr. Ashley could boast of having
full grown Irish potatoes for dinner
last Sunday.
Nine additional members were
added to the Brushy Creek Yocal
Class last Sunday.
We are under obligation to Judge
Henderson fora sack of ground peas,
for planting purposes.

3-16-tf. Lyte & Clint.
There are two soda fountains in
town now, one at Lyte & Clint’s and
one at Dr. G. II. Macon & Co's.
Farmer Lawson wants the report
denied that he sot a hen on boiled
eggs with a view to raising chicken
pie.
Mr. F. S. Ponsell brought in a
wagon load of excellent sweet pota-
toes Tuesday for which he found
ready sale.,
Mrs. Ann Paulk has been visiting
her daughter, Mrs. Emma Tygart,
at Nashville, Since Wednesday of
last week.
We have it on pretty good author¬
ity that there will soon be one wid
ower less in the eastern portion of
the county. So mote it be.
The-infant child of Mr. John II.
Johnson, of Arabi, and grand¬
daughter of Mr. J. W. Farnell, of
Ocilla, is dangerously ill at the home
of the latter.
For a while recently there was al-1
most a chicken and egg famine in
Ocilla. , bow _ T both _ , are more plenti- ,
ful and arc bringing fairly good
prices.
It is said that Mr. W. E. Cole¬
man and Mr. George Mixon are get¬
ting ready to put up a firstclans gin¬
nery in Ocilla. The Dispatch wishes
for them abundant success.
Mr. Elbert Paulk, brother of our
Warren, speut a day in town this
week, shaking hands with his kin¬
folks and friends. We hope to see
him come oftener and stay longer.
“Well,” said a drummer, Tues¬
day, to the unsuspecting Mayor of
the town, “they’ve at last found the
fellow that laid Goebel out.” “Who
was it?” asked the Mayor, “The
undertaker,” replied the drummer.
We want to chat with you before
you sell your chickens, eggs, hides,
etc. It will pay you.
3-16-tf. Lyte & Clixt.
Deputy Sheriff Henderson’s vac¬
cinate is about to disol ve copartners¬
hip with him.
Say, friends, when you are in
town, call at the Dispatch office
and tell us tho news.
We tip our best spring hat to the
handsome and well-behaved young
men who compose the Brushy Creek
nine.
Bob Handley is restive during
this rainy weather. Nothing pleases
him better than to be pushing the
good road work in old Irwin.
“Mr. Gray” says the Minnie class
will meet at Willacoochce church at
9 o’clock Sunday morning. Will
they go thence to the big all-day sing
at Irwinville, “Mr. Gray?”
Farmer, farmer, what you a-doin’?
« Waitin for the sunshine , t0 t t0
hoin ,„ How’s you.i crops and your
garden sass? “All mighty sorry—
except the grass.” Rain, rain, rain.
The Mystic Vocal Class was or¬
ganized on the third Sunday in last
month. Mr. James M. Bussell was
elected chorister, Mr. T. A. Bussell
secretary and Mr. Sam Wilcox treas¬
ures. Success to the olass.
The venerable Judge D. M. Ho¬
gan was a welcomed visitor to Ocilla
last week. Under Dr. Luke’s skill¬
ful treatment he had recovered
from a critical illness, and his host
of friends rejoice to know that has
obtained a new lease on life.
Lyte <fc Clint have added another
important line totheirbusi that
of owl raising. They have a pair
of the horned species in rear of
their store, in a cage, and these wise
looking birds attract much atten¬
tion.
A number of the Brushy Creek
Vocal Class speak of attending the
sing at Irwinville next Sunday.
Prof. W. J. Royal and most of the
Minnie Vocal Class will also be there.
Prof. Pickard, of Tifton, one of the
ablest leaders in Southwest Georgia,
will take part in the exercises, It
will be a great day in Irwinville.
Mr. R. L. Henderson is having
almost a plague of rabbits. He says
there is a large place in bis oat field
where these “varments” have clear¬
ed the oats oil the same as sheep.
Thursday he and Mr. George Tuck¬
er, with several rabbit dogs, were
to have made-war upon them.
Play Ball!
The baseball season opened in
Ocilla Saturday afternoon with
Brushy f'reek vs. Ocilla.
The nine from Brushy Creek was
, made up of the best young men in the
; neighborhood, viz: E. E. Dorminey,
captain; If. B. Sutton, M. L. Mc-
Neeso, Nas Tucker, Jack McMillan,
, W. H. Paulk, Rob. Grantham, Geo.
j Grantham and “Boy” Harper,
j They were accompanied by the
I Brushy Creek Brass Band, which
, rendered several popular airs and
did much, to cheer the boys on to
I victory. At the end of the second
inning the score stood 0 to 2 in fa-
■ vor of Ocilla, but for some cause
j Ocilla’s pitcher and one or two field-
; ers were changed, and then the
Brushy Creek boys completely wiped
up the diamond. Six innings were
played, at the end of which the score
stood 21 to 10 in favor of Brushy
Creek.
NOTES.
Col. Melvin Paulk umpired the
game, aad gave general satisfaction.
The usual amount of “rooting”
and guying was indulged in by the
friends of each team, which created
merriment for the spectators.
Several beautiful “flies” were
nabbed by the Ocilla boys, Willie
Hobbs making the most astounding
catch.
Fred Bruce is a born “catcher”
and needs better support.
Many of the fair sex witnessed
the game, and apparentlp enjoyed it
very much.
The best of good humor prevailed,
and Ocilla would be glad to have
the boys come again.
Married.
Mr. Robert Arnold, son of Mr.
N. A. Arnold, and Miss Maud Luke,
daughter of Mr, David Luke, both
of Ocilla, were married Sunday at
the residence of ’Squire J. II. Mc-
Neese, that gentleman tying the
nuptial knot. Mr. McNeese lives
about seven or eight miles east of
town.
It was a runaway match, there be¬
ing parental objection on both sides.
The Dispatch hopes that the
young couple may live happy and
lives.
When you want ready-made cloth¬
ing, shirts, underwear, etc., sec us.
We may save you money.
3-16-tf. Lyte & Clint.
A sirup bottle, at a soda fountain,
that contains three or four distinct
kinds of sirup at the same time and
will give "out only one kind at a
time, is a jewel of rare price.
It is understood that Clint is
keeper of the owls. The birds are
quite fond of him, and one of the
wicked boys says they look just like
he does.
Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Harper wel¬
comed a bouncing baby boy to their
family circle on Thursday of last
week. Lott just can’t keep from
showing that he is a very happy
man.
Tuesday was a lovely day—for
young ducks. It was not an ideal
picnic day, however, as a grotqi of
young ladies and gentlemen who
went to Reedy creek for that kind
of a jolifiieation no doubt ascer¬
tained.
One day last week Judge Hender¬
son married a colored couple and
before night issued a warrant against
the groom for marrying the girl.
The latter was done at the instance
of the girl's father, who claimed she
was not of age.
