During the recent freshet in the i
Oennilgee river, a farmer living sev-
hook eral miles in the below town and put caught out a cat¬ set j
swamp a
fish that weighed forty-eight pounds.
It is supposed that this monster fish
had been foraging around in a corn
field and was making his way back
to the main current of the river |
when caught. We are indebted to .

The Negro in the Woodpile.
The “hue and cry” from a neigh¬
boring community for a primary has
one end in view, and that is the
defeat of all the announced candi¬
dates by a home man who is sup¬
posed to be i inimical to Fitzgerald
and who knows he cannot risk his
chances in the three counties. They
want sonic sort of a change in the
field.
Three of as good men as there
are in Irwin county are in the race,
either of whom would make a capa¬
ble and honorable representative of
the district in the state senate.
The Enterprise is perfectly satis¬
fied with the situation.—Fitzgerald
Enterprise.
Of course Ooilla is the “neighbor¬
ing community,” but there has been
nothing here like “a hue and cry”
for a primary.
Would the Enterprise please in¬
form us who the “home man” is
“who knows he cannot risk his
chances in the three counties?” We
would like to take a good look at
him and teil him there is something
wrong with the gray matter under
his hat—that is, if he, like the En¬
terprise, thinks a primary in Irwin
would deprive the other counties
of a voice in his election.
As it is Irwin’s time to furnish
the state senator, it seems to us that
the man who could secure the
strongest indorsement of the people
ot the county would he the man to
put foward, whether he happened
to live in Fitzgerald or Waterloo,
Ocilla or Irwinville, or anywhere
else in the county.
By reading between the lines, it
strikes us that our worthy contem¬
porary is just a little too well satis¬
fied with the ticket already in the
field. We know all the candidates,
either personally or by reputation,
and know them to be honorable
gentlemen; but we know of no sound
reason why the Enterprise should
want to bar further entries, if other
aspirants should wish to test their
popularity before the people.
The Enterprise favors a free-for-
all race, and in the same breath in¬
timates that the three candidates al¬
ready in the field are enough for the
people to select from. There is a
touch of inconsistency just here, as
well as a strong hint of “a nigger in
the woodpile” in Fitzgerald.
So far as we know, Ooilla has no
prospective candidate for the sen¬
ate; but if she should decide to put
out a man, who would be so lost to
common sense as to say she had no
right to do so?
Our respected contemporary should
study the French proverb that has
reference to evil thinkers.

White man Turned Yellow.
Great consternation was felt by
the friends of M. A. Hogarty, of
Lexington, Ky., when they saw he
was turning yellow, His skin slowly
changed color, also his eyes, and ho
suffered terribly. His malady was
yellow jaundice. He was treated by
the best doctors, but without bene¬
fit. Then he was advised to try
Electric Bitters, the wonderful stom¬
ach and liver rom'edy, and he writes:
“After taking Iwo bottles I was
wholly cured.” A trial proves its
matchless merit for all liver, stpm-
ach and kidney troubles. Only 50

Was It a Miracle?
“The marvellous cure of
Rena J . Stout of consumption has
created intense excitement in Cam-
mack, led., writes Marion Stuart, a
leading druggist of Muncie, Ind.
She only weighed 90 pounds when
her doctor in Yorktown said she
must soon die. Then she began to
use Dr. King’s New Discovery and
gained 37 pounds in weight and was
completely cured.” It has cured
thousands of hopeless cases, and is
positively guaranteed to cure all
throat, chest and lung diseases.
50 cents and $1.00. Trial bottles
free at The Ocilla Drug Co.’s store.
Our guess is the executive com¬
mittee will fail to call a primary,
for the very good reason that it is
had politics to inaugurate the in¬
novation in the interest of one man.
—Fitzgerald Enterprise. To say
that a primary is sought to be held
for the benefit of one man and oppose
the holding of a primary is a tacit
admission that the said one man,
whoever he may be, could carry the
county, and therefore should not be
given the opportunity. This argu¬
ment needs a bottle of. strengthen¬
ing cordial.
Many thousands have been re¬
stored to health and happiness by
the use of Chamberlain’s Cough
Remedy. If afflicted.with any throat
or lung trouble, give it a trial, for it
is certain to prove beneficial. Coughs
that have resisted all oth°r treat-
ment for years, have yielded do this
remedy and perfect health been re¬
stored. Cases that seemed hopeless,
that the climate of famous health
resorts failed to benefit, have been
permanently cured by its use. Bear
iu mind that every bottle is war¬
ranted and i f it does not prove bene¬
ficial the money will be returned to
you. For sale by The Ocilla Drug
Company.
Atlanta, .July 12.—Governor Can¬
dler received a letter this morning
from the ordinary of Colquitt foun-
tv, asking fouassistance to remedy
the outbreak of small pox which is
now raging in that county. There
are numerous cases at Doe Run, a
short distance from Moultrie, the
county seat. The Governor sent a
number of vaccine points, but could
send no government expert, as the
health officer who was assigned to
Georgia last year has been ordered
away. The state has no health board
or health officer, and in this case the
Governor can render but little as¬
sistance. The Governor will prob-
ably recommend to the legislature
this year that a health hoard be es-
tablished.
Cure for Cholera Infantum—-Never

of our neighbor was suffering with
cohlera infantum. The doctors j

cording to directions. In two day’s
time the child had fully recovered.

known it to fail.—Mrs. Curtis Ba-

Editor Geo. 11. Bell, of the Wire-
grass Blade, wanted the executive
j cominittee of his C0U nty to call a
| primary, which they failed to do,
and this is the way he looks at it:
“This county is not ruled by the
people at all, but by a set of self-
conceited, long-eared, loud-brav¬
ing, broken-down jackasses, who
think they are the whole thixh.
This thing can’t last always, though,
for tlie people are beginning to ranr-
