Dampiers Store Blown Up.
The quiet and peaceful town of
Naylor was shaken to its founda¬
tions just a little before midnight
last night by an explosion which
wrought tain: to. the store of F. L.
Dumpies, known whether
It is not exactly dynamite
the explosion was from
or gun powder, though it is very
elear that it occurred from the out¬
side of the house and was the result
of an intention to completely destroy
the store and stock of goods. It is
possible that the house had been rob¬
bed and that the explosive was used
to destroy all trace of the robbers.
The explosion occurred about the
time the train from Savannah pass¬
ed that place. It was accompanied
by a loud report and' shook the en-
tire community. The citizens who
were sleeping were aroused from
their slumbers by- the report. The
building caught on- lire, but was ex¬
tinguished. lifted
The roof of the building was
by,the-force of the explosion and
then dropped with a crash upon the
counters of .the store, caving m com-
pletely. Mr; Dam pier carried a large
stock, which is badly damaged by
the crash.
There is no theory as to who applied
the explosive to the store, though
the officers of the law are already
investigating the case.—Valdo-sta
