THE CONYERS WEEKLY. 0 2 > ORGAN CITY OF COSTFRS. S > ORGAN OF ROCKDALS COCNTY. c W White PtJELC IIER , N. Hale.......... ........EmTor —Tom EUis and Turmpseed are two “geninien >b color.’ Tom resides at t'ovejov, while Berry has his hab iw .ion within the hall »w.*d vicinrg Mi. Pleasant Church, in this county. Berry’s norma] financi ,1 condition i* one oi chronic ini pecuniosity. and about this ime last Lu- he ac- o ted Tom and importuned him tor the loan ot a certain sum of irwiipy Tom generously aceom modated him, with the undemanding that the loan was to be prmptly ,ep#id. Days merged into weeks, howev r, and weeks into mentis, hut Berry failed to make his promts good. In vain Tom adjured him to repay the loan, each time pouring into Pis unsymptubetib ear tales of va¬ rious commissary straits and domes, io distresses that might be relieved by a judicious use of the money so Unfeelingly ami selfishly withheld hy the impecunious bin owes. Tom finally waxed wroth over the wrongs heaped upon him by tie neighbor, a nd decided when he next saw Berry to square the account in some way. If he got the iTiomy, all right;—it he 1 wiled to get money, lie u d take it out in gore. Last Tuesday night Berry vis'ted Lov» joy IHTI skylarking expedition, and the first man lie n et was Ins inquiring friend, Tom. As usual,Tore wanted money: fcs usuel, Berry didn’t have it—didn’t, kDOw when he would have it, etc. Thereupon, Tom gathered a chair and struck his recalcitrant debtor uvo or three shary blows on the head. Berry closed in upon him at this juncture, and gathering Toni’s ear between his, teeth, succeeded in severing that, ornamental membej from Ifis head as smoothly arid completely as it it had been done with a knile. Berry ejected the fragment ot anttomy from IBs mouth and went on his vuty rejoicing Tom gathered up the remains of his auricular appendagd and brought it to McDonough last Wednesday, intending to submit it to (he grand jury as a supplement so his bill of woes and procure a warrant for Berry’s arrest. The assault having been committed in Clayton county, however, be was very much d.scour aged when told that our grand jury bad uo jurisdiction in his case, and as he lift town he presented the ap. pea ranee of a man who was not ou v I teerated h. body but dtely and sadly perturbed in spirit. The following sensible and forcible paragraph enpo.scd dy the Auguita News, is Horn the Athens Brunei Watchman. We have been of the opiuiou fora long while that it is the conduct of Democrats that stirs up the colored people to action. They are willing to concede that the white people alone know how and adminis¬ ter the government consequently know that their ignorance unfit them for any of ahe offices in the land. But here is the article; No country is safe wher ignorance und vice holds the balance of dower ever intelligence and virtue—and this state of affairs is now threatening the South, and Georiga especially. The color line has got to be drawn in politics, and the sooner it is done the better for tTe country and both races. We belivein giving the negro every pro tection in life, liberty and proyerly but we are an advocate of making liitn shinny on hi* own side. A Democratic party cannot save the South, but a wnite man’s party can and will do so. Let the Caucasian race combine and work together leaving the negro upon his own resources. Let us frown down any white man who seeks to drag them into politics, and cast him owrboard a3 a Jonas. Left alone the negro will give us no trouble, bnt when designing and unscrupulous white man attempt to drag him into politics, to be used as a too for I heir advancement, then he become an instrument of danger and degreda tion. - wsi» -OSsV: .——— IrMain Ciigtisl ^pwm^ E.UR.E EXVBEi^ED ’ Das fB°E Cf 5 ‘-i£USTHE -.
