Georgia is enjoying about as
much prosperity as any state in
tin* union and-the entire South
is free iYoui bank or any other
kind of failures. Our section,
from a busines view, is iu the
front.
Small manufacturing Enter¬
prises have never yet failed to
matt'Dally aid in the upbuilding
of a town. Conyers shuld take

Electric lights would be one
of the best investments the town
could possibly make at this
time.

The editorial page of the
Evening Constitution is a gem
every day in the week. It is
made up of reading matter that
is restful as well as helpful to the
mind.
Rome is after another cotton
Factory . The people of that
thriving little mountain city
know a good thing when they
see it.
An old man died in Sparta,
Ga., last week and left fifty
thousand dollars that will like¬
ly go into the state treasury. If
he has an v relatives they are un¬
known to the people of Sparta.
The old man went to that town
hi his youth and established a
jeweler’s shop. He attended to
business and practiced economy
and the snug fortune he leaves
is the result. He never spoke
of relatives and the people of
Sparta considered him en
tirely alone iu the world.
Electric Lights.
It is just possible that Con¬
yers is nearing the period that
will usher in electric lights.
We venture this suggestion
on the stsength of a little agi¬
tation of the question on the
part of the city council at its
last regular meeting. Whether
this agitation results in any
positive action or not, it is some
consolation to the Weekly to
know that the city government
realizes the necessity of better
Btreet lights.
The lamps now used are scat
tered at long intervals and af
fords only scant and flickering
light within a small radius. It
is a light that blinds the eye
and makes the darkness darker,
Much complaiut is heard on
haud concerning the city’s
poor ligts and every one must
admit that there is just cause
it. Some improvement
be made.
An investigation as to the cost
establishing an maintaining
an electric plaut adequate to
the demand for thoroughly
the city should be made
the mayof and council and
report of said investigation
to the people. Intelligent
action in the matter will speed¬
develop the fact, in our hum¬
oDinion, that the town can

Electric Lights for Conyers
Editor Conyers Weekly:
Why not have this enterprise
ing little city lighted with
t deity?
This is one of the questions of
the day,.and a good many Con
yersites are in favor of electric
lights,
Don’t be afraid of it because
it is a new proposition. Look
imo it and consider it. Weigh
the cost and the advantages.
Electricity is becoming the
light and the motive power ev¬
erywhere. It is time to get in
line with the progress of the
times,
Our streets and houses can
be lighted cheaply by electricity,
and it will not only be a corn
fort and a convenience, but an
advertisement for the place.
Our people opposed the intro¬
duction of matches, and some
may now be against electric
lights, but the world has to
move on, and we must make
an effort to go with it.
The introduction of electric
lights will do Conyers more
than the erection of a doz-
en stores It will be a long
forward, and the cost of
such au improvement is hardly
worth counting

Judge sweat is being reques
^ed to take a back seat by some
papers. This course would be
liable io leave the impression
that the Judge was acting from
a sense of his guilt and general
unfitness for the position he
holds, aud to our thinking the
judicial gentleman will hold on
steadfastly to his judgeship:
