Now Orleans.' Jnly 22.-Twclvc rent* for

ket opened at that flguro thla morning
m by other papers, numerous reports of
npw bales from south Texas, favorable
weather over Sunday, there waa wogp
baying at thla price to offset «U ■eUlng.
We have only three more days to the 25th,
on which day end* the period for the com
ing bureau report. Considering the prog
ress niude since June 25th It la practically
beyond the question of doubt that the gov
ernment will give a condition higher than
in 1906. when It wa* 74.9. There Is much
•peculation as to who abaorba the present
wiling. The beat explanation we can find
I*, that leading speculation. which liqui
dated around 12.60 for October, and
played for a turn. Is covering and alowly
laying the foundation for another bull
campaign In cotton, relying on the coming
bnresu report to put tno finishing touches
en their structure. We arc entering n

yield would be a miracle, and the chances
for higher cotton nre as good ns ever.
I nder the dreumstancM It appears Just a
qaesthm to aav* much outlay of money and

fair weather prevailed over Sunday In the
belt. Some showers occurred In Texas. It

perntures rose considerably In the delta

Jlest of selling to be withdrawn. The out-

*°r the eastern half of the belt. South-
*est Texas, according to all accounts re

preciable movement of new cotton is ex-
P^’ted In about ten days. This will have
little effect on the markets, as there Is

now would cause prices to seek a higher
level than we have yet seen, while, even
with continued favorable weather, we do
not believe there Is enough chance of profit
on the short side to warrant the risk. We
continue to adhere to our bullish position

profits are to be made through buying on

■New York. Jnly 22.—Today’s dealings
showed the usual uncertainty of,a Monday
market following a week of advancing
prices. There was the customary feeling
among professional traders thnt the Imme
diate technical situation JiiMtlflcd some reap-
tlou. and this element whs dlspt»sed to sell
freely on both neconnts. American atoeks
were not much changed In the enrly Lon
don dealings and for the first hour tho
movement was very irregular. 8t. Ihml,
Atchison, Reading and one or two others
maintained n strong upward tendency, white
last week’s lenders like Union Pacific nnd
Southern 1'nclfic, Northern Pacific nnd
Great Northern were distinctly heavy from
the outset. There also reappeared that
mysterious pressure upon the United Hfntes
Steel Issues which had been jl disturbing
factor at Intervals lu last week’s opera
tion*. Attempts were once more made to
connect this selling with the report* of de
clining activity In the Steel trade, but tho
explanation also was vouchsafed that some
Individual holdings of Steel common were
being liquidated for purely personal ren-
sons, and that the Increase In the supply
was encouraging bearish Interests to at
tack the stock.
